Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

It's been a long time but I think was a HF rolloff to prevent oscillation

Re: Dunlop - JH-F1 Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face [schematic]

Hi all, I just built this pedal but the volume is very very low. I have to max out my amp (on clean) for just a little bit of sound. The fuzz tone is alright though. What could it be? If it's gating then it could be a bias issue but it sounds like a short, a wrong or bad part, or a bad solder joint...

It really doesn't work that way... you are going to need a 3PDT.

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

...so I checked a few transistors in the big bag of BC183's on which I had previously written "<300 hfe". I don't know how that got on there; these things are all in the high 700's! Oh well. Sorry for the false alarm. bc183 can sometimes be temperature sensitive... usually not t...

Congratulations! I knew you'd end up with a killer fuzz. The initial build is only half of the equation with these things... swapping parts until it's perfect is how beauty emerges.

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

My current BC183s aren't really right for this project, so I'm waiting for the delivery of some new batches (darn, I wrote "bitches" by accident! :hmmm: ), hopefully sometime this coming week. :horsey: My experience was that the wrong gain bc183 sounded more "right" than the rig...

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

Also early on we figured out that 330E is too low for most of us... I ended up with somewhere around 500... other people went as high as 680 I believe. What is this "330E" you're referring to? I've done a search and couldn't find anything. Sorry I'm in the habit of say E instead of ohm......

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

I noticed a couple of things while playing around with Q2's bias setting and swapping transistors, when I adjusted the biasing of Q2 so that it had about 3.17V on it's collector I got something that sounded close to the EJ Fuzz Face but there wasn't much sustain and the output level was a bit low, ...

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

I'm waiting for a new batch of BC183s to arrive. Hopefully the hFEs will come close to the magical numbers of 217 and 547, and the voltages on each pin will all miraculously align themselves to those of an original EJ fuzz :block: For now, with the current BC183Ls in my build (in the 480-520 hFE ra...

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]

Your amp is definitely not the problem. The ground loop problem is more of an amp thing where current differs vastly in different parts of the circuit... probably not an issue now that I really think about the circuit. Try your bc183ls... i think they have a different pinout so check a datasheet... ...

Hello All! Thanks for participating in such an informative forum. It's been really educational to learn how to build my own pedals based on all your contributions! I read every single post here, all 18 pages, and put together one of these EJ fuzzes by following the traces and specs. I don't have an...

I'm looking for a madbean sunking pcb or something equivalent. Does anyone know where to find a legit klone pcb since madbean discontinued the sunking?

Tremulus Lune 15x15 perfboard layout

Here's a layout I did for the tremulus lune. I wanted to fit it on a 15x15 radioshack style perfboard. Layout is verified. Enjoy :D
