Re: Analogman - King of Tone [traced]

UPDATE: I have just verified that, in the february 2024 batch, C4 and C22 (the caps in the feedback loops) are 0.20 uf ceramic (BC 204). Respect to my self built clone (with 100pf feedback loop cap), the original specimen that I have just bought seems to have more presence and compression, and a sen...

Re: Chase Tone - Secret Preamp [traced]

Hoping I'm not missing it from previous posts, what are the proper biasing voltages for the jfet? It would be great if someone could share the actual measurements from the original pedal. EDIT: in this post it is said "My original measures 12.46V, with a Vref of around 22V." In this post i...

Re: Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz - current version

I've built a RM Classic Fuzz with AC128's after analysing a real one a couple years ago (2019-2020, Can't rememeber now). Honestly, nothing special. It's a regular FF tuned up to sound a little louder/gainier. I've also built a couple of times from an older schematic that can be found online and ne...

Re: Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz - current version

Russian transistor pinout check? What is the collector voltage you keep talking about? There's no way they could be the same unless they are not drawing current, (open emitter to gnd). Using NKT, AC and OC transistor, pinout triple checked with Atlas DC55. Wouldn't it be an idea to post voltages of...

Re: Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz - current version

Your breadboard is probably OK, inserting those two 10k resistors will radically reduce the voltage measured at the collector of Q2 to less than -1V, according to LTspice. Still no fuzz at all, anyway, just plain clean signal in every bias setting allowed by the trimpot, and almost the same voltage...

Re: Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz - current version

As far as I've verified looking at other PCBs traces in gut shots pictures, the circuit topology is the ordinary Fuzz Face, as per schematic below, with the following differences: https://fuzzcentral.ssguitar.com/fuzzface/fuzzfacepnpschematic.gif 33K --> 47K trimpot 470R --> 10K 8,2K --> 10K Fuzz po...

Re: Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz - current version

Q2 10K +10K or Q2 10K and output taken directly from C. Actually I have tried with 10K + trimmer on Q1C/Q2B, 10K on Q2 collector and output taken directly from the node between that resistor and the B+, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe a(n incomplete) picture of the back of the PCB can help. http...

Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz - current version

Hello everybody, I'm looking at some pictures of the more recent version of the Roger Mayer Classic Fuzz, which reportedly "incorporates the same modifications that I personally developed for Jimi and can be heard on his early recordings", and I'm wondering how its configuration can be int...

Re: Maestro - FZ-1 Fuzztone (1962) [schematic]

MK1 tonebender is much, much more difficult to get right... BUT the Supa fuzz MK1 having a fixed gain is far more simpler to get right. IMO Ben I don't know, with Tone Bender MKI I've had more or less the same experience as with the FZ1: once you have the right transistors it's not so difficult to ...

Re: Maestro - FZ-1 Fuzztone (1962) [schematic]

For anyone interested I made several ones and found a fool prove way to make them: -the 1.5V seams to be the best and most forgetful one - transistors MP42B and GT402E are the best I found for replacement, (Personally I use a mix with MP42B,MP42B and GT402E). I bias them with a trimmer at C2 and C3...

Re: Maestro - FZ-1 Fuzztone (1962) [schematic]

Hello everybody, il would be really great if someone who owns an original FZ1 would be so kind to share: 2) pictures of the bracket holding the circuit board, and how it's mounted; Yay! Mysteries n. 2 and 3 solved, thank you! :applause: It would be really perfect if you could also share the exact b...

Re: Roger Mayer Vision Octavia [traced]

The point is that I can see 28 resistors on the Vision PCB and only 25 on the schematic (excluding the discarded 100K resistors from diodes to ground).
Unless three resistors are involved in the omitted millennium-bypass, something doesn't match exactly.
Someone has built it?

Re: Sola Sound Hybrid GE-SI Tone Bender MKII

I built it last year from here, where you got the layout: http://dirtboxlayouts.blogspot.com/2019/10/damsolasound-tonebender-mk-ii-hybrid.html It's a small TBmk2 run mentioned on the DAM forum where Q2 &Q3 are low gain silicon, yet Q1 remains germanium, so it cleans up as you would expect. The ...

Re: Sola Sound Hybrid GE-SI Tone Bender MKII

What types of transistors were used? I don't think the type really matters. Unlike germanium, silicon transistors are extremely consistent, should be built in a very standardized way, show no leakage at all and generally all sound pretty much the same, provided they have the same hfe. Think about S...

Sola Sound Hybrid GE-SI Tone Bender MKII

Hello, for everyone that loves Tone Bender MKII, here's some new stuff from Sola Sound that can maybe help avoiding the germanium instability, at least for a good measure. I've drawn the layout (which is the same of the classic layout) according to the photos I've found here and there. It shows with...

Re: Castledine Electronics - The Wizard [traced]

No, I have not got the pedal on the bench, I got the information form another source. I do not know which is the most recent, I guess the second one. But anyway-the second one is verified. Manfred, please notice that C2 value is reported right on the PCB (47uf) but not on the schematic, where is st...

Re: Castledine Electronics - The Wizard [traced]

Laney LA100 Supergroup was essentially a slighty modified Marshall Super Bass. As Manfred told before, the Treble control of the pedal works around a simplified Marshall (Super Bass) tone stack - in that sense, according to Laney LA100 schematic, the tone stack capacitor value could be 270pf instead...

Re: Castledine Electronics - The Wizard [traced]

Please notice that the electrolytic cap on CV7351's emitter is 47uf as per standard Rangemaster value, not 100uf. Hope to give a look at the rest of the schematic as soon as I can. Also, the resistor in parallel appears to be a 3K9 (also standard Rangemaster) in one of the photos (the one posted by ...
