Re: Valve Grinder and those big blue tibe pedals..HELP!!!

Years ago I had a blue tube pedal called 'BLUE TUBE", made by real tube or some such, had a 12ax7a, volume, drive, 3 knob tonestack, plugged into the wall. A little black plastic switch. Was intended for bass guitar. Sounded awful, just muddied the sound. I believe there was a black version for...

This kind of thing makes ya feel OLD. I clearly remember these going for $10-$15.00 or so at flea markets. Now you can get cars for less. Go figure...

Hey! The input is a jack, not a plug. How come I never saw one like this before? It doesn't look like a mod. Edit: or is it? The masking tape, the solder glob...

OK, I know I'm OT here, but I finally dug up the right allen wrench(PITA!) and opened that Digitech grunge.

Alas, as AG has said- it's SMD. :(

Could you possibly rig up a VTL5C4/2? Or is this for a Mutron(won't work, tried it)... ?

Yes, I had the Frizzy Fuzz years ago... apparently a transistor Muff Fuzz clone. 2 trannys, 2 diodes, a few resistors and caps, one really cheezy pot, crappy switch. It was in the plug-in box like the Muff, and was painted red. The only unusual thing I remember were the diodes- big, black, cylinder ...

Dod and Digitech always have been the same company.... I would assume that the Diugitech Grunge is the SMD version of the FX69B... analogguru Thanks! I knew that they at least used to be the same company... wasn't sure if they still were. Heh- mormon pedals... I had hoped for an easy mod for the ki...

Found the schematic(had to google it)... here yeah, they have a lot in common... not quite the same, but certainly along the same lines. Looks like EH took the grunge circuit and went a bit further with it. Holy crap AG, you really have an eye for these things! Now I gotta go see if I can find a sch...

You're kidding... the dod grunge has a reputation for sounding horrible... yet this thing gets rave reviews. I gotta go look up that grunge schematic(I probably have it)... but this just goes to show the power of mojo. Slightly OT, but does anyone know if the digitech grunge is the same animal? I ha...

Me too! This sure ain't a BMP! bits of it remind me of a schematic I saw for the Dano Fab metal but this is more complex. Interesting!

Hey, this does look different. This is the new NYC version? I haven't seen those 0.47uf decoupling caps at the input and the in of the last gain stage before... interesting. I wonder if that's enough to tame the usual mud... probably for some amps... and all those 10k resistors remind me of the Russ...

Yeah, the fuzz in a fuzz wah is the tone machine. This is a different animal. I googled it and read a sales blurb, and they say the pedal controls speed in 'auto mode', and phase in manual mode. That must be what the rotary switch selects... What is not clear is what was meant by controlling "p...

WOW! I didn't know these even existed! Sooo... Is it like the fuzz wah, with dual circuits, or does the foot control the sweep of the phase? Please don't tell me it just controls the speed of the lfo...

2N404a- look for those on evilbay. I picked up a big sack of em for $20.00, pulled from an ancient room size computer circuit board. Pretty much any good PNP germanium should do the trick though, provided the gain and leakage are within shooting range of whatever it is that works for this circuit. 2...

Leakage might be throwing the measurements off... but a neg ground fuzz is a beautiful thing when it works out. Sure as hell worth a try!

Is there room to stuff another pot in one? If so, maybe a simple low pass filter(pot-cap-ground) might come in handy.
