Re: Baja Music Man guitar and bass onboard preamps [verified]

Or, add a battery and thus increase headroom? Maybe just to see if that is indeed the problem?

Re: EBS - Multidrive

Ancient thread, but I noticed this uses a 2164. Note that these IC's can sometimes be destroyed by current peaks when switching power on and off (as is likely to happen in an effects pedal). Here's an article about the matter: https://www.njohnson.co.uk/index.php?menu=2&submenu=2&subsubmenu=3 A scho...

Makes sense, since he is quite anal about his IP :D

Re: Baja low noise low current drain bass guitar preamp 1212 [verified]

Thanks!
Also did a SMT version this afternoon (well, all the regular resistor values, like 1k, 10k, 100k, 1M are SMT, left the rest TH as I still have a very big pile of parts on stock, same for the transistors), which is slightly smaller. That one is double sided though, so not much fun to self etch.

Re: Baja low noise low current drain bass guitar preamp 1212 [verified]

Nice work! Keen on giving this a try. I think I'll do a double sided layout and have some boards made (because I do not self etch boards these days), but I did make a single sided layout, needs only a single wire strap. Let's see if I can upload it here. Unverified, of course. Let me know if anyone ...

Re: Baja Music Man guitar and bass onboard preamps [verified]

To follow up, I did a layout for the Stingray preamp, which has a bit more room for film capacitors and bigger electrolytics.
Slightly bigger but still not too large:

Uses SMT resistors:

Let me know if someone wants a board.

Re: Baja Music Man guitar and bass onboard preamps [verified]

It does add a bit of "je ne sais quoi" in this preamp though.
Somewhat less treble I suppose, and then there's the 50 fold (or so) reduced power drain when compared to tl072.....

Re: Need two Eagle library components.

Dual 16mm pots are in the pot lbr, I believe that's a standard library.
There's also a switch library, but there are several footprints, so you might want to dig a bit.

Re: Aguilar Tone Hammer

Fascinating goopage :D A few opamps can be seen though, so, at least a dual for the balanced output, one for the input, maybe one for the output. So then, tone controls and distortion under the goop? It looks as if there's plenty of room to do things with discrete transistors, or maybe multi band di...

Re: Banzai System is flawed!

To those looking to order at Banzai, they are moving and so have (not announced upfront obviously) delays in shipping stuff. I ordered something just over a week ago, and decided to check on the progress (ordered something from Reichelt at the SAME time, and that has arrived 5 days ago!), and was di...

Re: Banzai System is flawed!

Same here, I had some switches in my order which were in stock when I ordered, I make a point of checking since I don't want to deal with backorders (recipe for disaster IMHO). Well, it's been a month and a half now, had to remind them of my order myself. And after e-mailing them it took 4 days for ...

Re: Pro Co - Juggernaut [schematic]

I think i've built one ages ago, which worked fine. (layout by bajaman?)
Never gotten around to putting it in a box though (and donated to charity in a big box full of half finished projects / electronics scrap).

Re: TDA2030 Amp (Especially "Clean")

You might want to build everything on a single pcb, but if not, you can buy tda2030 power amps on eBay. A complete module, just add a preamp. Tiny pcb, i have one in the bin somewhere to try out sometime. I think i paid 4-5usd incl shipping.

Thanks!

I like how they did the equalizer on the ProTube, real simple gyrators, single transistor and a few components.

Re: Warwick Jonas Hellborg preamp

Did they do any other good solid state preamps? They are likely to have re-used sections of the circuits. Probably quite a bit different than the Warwick Quadruplet preamp :D Any other Warwick rack preamps with inductor mid controls? Some of the other preamps do have transformer balanced outputs rig...

Re: Warwick Jonas Hellborg preamp

That would be great Mike! From what I can see, it has a very high quality shielded toroidal transformer for the PSU. A shielded transformer for balanced out, and a very large shielded inductor for the mid control. The latter is presumably a swinging input affair (see API553 or other console tone con...

Warwick Jonas Hellborg preamp

Hello all, Did anyone here see bigger pictures of the guts of the Warwick Jonas Hellborg amp, or even better, have a schematic (unlikely)? I wonder what's up with this preamp, it gets pretty good reviews, but the small picture of the innards I saw does not show anything out of the ordinary, apart fr...

I have built 4-5 of these but never saw this turn on delay. Both with tl071's and lm4250's.

Re: Baja Music Man guitar and bass onboard preamps [verified]

Sorry, what I meant to say was do away with the electrolytic cap on the input, on my builds I always use a 1uF filmcap there (no polarity).
