Re: Interfax - Harmonic Percolator [schematic]

Hi folks! I haven't posted for a while, but I wanted to share a link to an article on my (non-commercial) site that includes demo video of four Harmonic Percolator variants. (Sadly, I have no original, but I rounded up all the original parts, thanks to Christian Magee from Tube Depot, who sent me a ...

Oh, I get it. Because it would mean someone's been reading about the 21st Century Muff. Derrrr.

Re: Black Arts Pharaoh [traced]

Muff with a bax, huh? I can feel the storm clouds brewing already... ... let my guess: It starts with "m" and ends with "tester"? Can someone clue me in on why that's a touchy topic? I just made a Muff and a Whisker Biscuit with a Bax and the results were . . . interesting.

Re: BUZZAROUND-ALIKE

Just breadboarded the mictester schematic, and it sounds fantastic -- and I greatly prefer it to the three-germ Buzzaround I made a few months ago. No way would I ever again make one with more than one germ transistor!

Re: Systech - Harmonic Energizer [schematic]

So a year after starting this thread, I FINALLY build one based on Purple People Eater's Layout posted earlier in this thread. It turned out GREAT — nicer than the original unit, actually. Got me sort of excited about using this filter again. A few post-build observations: 1. 90% of the fun happens ...

Re: Maestro Fuzz-Tone Model: FZ1B [schematic]

The FZ1-B is sort of the grandson of the father of fuzzboxes. It was proceeded by the FZ1 and FZ1a. Here's a pic of all three:

The earlier models run on AA batteries and have built-in audio cables. And yes, metal-can germanium transistors.

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround

Okay, can someone help fill in the blanks so the math numbskulls among us can print it out? (Actually, judging by what I read here, I may be the sole math numbskull on FSO, so let's just say it's for my benefit.) The best way to simulate a C100K pot is to take a B500K pot and put a 127K resis...

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround

So can anyone tell me whether I was correct when I speculated: Wow guys -- thanks for the tips and links. Okay, bear with me, 'cause I'm even worse at math than at soldering. Am I understanding this right? To create a reverse log pot of a specific value, you take a pot of approximately five times th...

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround [schematic]

Well, I played around with the Fuxxaround today, and man, that C100K sustain pot is a HUGE improvement. Real night and day stuff. Now the pedal has TONS of usable tones. Thanks to everyone who helped out, especially Alex. :D

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround [schematic]

Thanks, Brad! I popped in a C100K for the sustain control and it seems like a BIG improvement. Lots more fun, interactive variations, though I could only play for a few seconds (I'll try again tomorrow). I tried that 180K-resistor-on-a-250KB-pot trick too. Not precisely the same result (I preferred ...

Yeah, double-checked to the best of my limited capacity.

Sadly, I've never used a real one, so I'm not familiar with how the sustain should behave.

Do the tones sound accurate otherwise, Alex? Thanks.

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround (+ audio clip) [schematic]

Hey folks -- thanks for the killer thread. I just built the Fuxxaround, the NPN version created by Alex Frias and posted earlier in this thread. Sounds fantastic. But I'm experiencing some, um, unexpected behavior, which I suspect is due to some typical screw-up on my part. I used three linear pots ...

Re: Catalinbread - Dirty Little Secret [traced]

Hey guys -- I made one last weekend from Mike L's vero layout. Sounds great, and worked right away, which would impress you if you saw how abysmal my build quality tends to be. I took it to rehearsal for a tour I'm starting. But a certain famous person "borrowed" it and won't give it back....

Re: Way Huge - Aqua-Puss [traced]

Just swapping out Q3 and Q4 -- no change.

But I noticed this: When calibrating VR3 by touching the audio probe to R28, the signal is WAY loud. Plenty of level there! So it's being attenuated a bit more than desired somewhere downstream from there. Does that make any sense?

Best,

Joe

Damn, you're good! :)

The magic value for R24 was 4k7. Just perfect.

This is almost there. Got a magic tip to boost the output slightly?

Once I get it dialed in, I'll post audio files.

Re: Way Huge - Aqua-Puss [traced]

Alright! Inching closer! With C31 and C32 replaced with their proper 224 values, the quality of the delay is MUCH nicer. I mean, really, really nice. But I still have that 40/60 wet/dry mix at max delay level, and worse, not enough regeneration. Maximum feedback yields about the amount of regenerati...
