The Goose, the Middleman, the Idolmaker and Gomer Pyle

The Goose, the Middleman, the Idolmaker and Gomer Pyle. Now that I look back on it all it becomes clear to me what I got myself in to. Basically two different cultures, outlooks, lifestyles, dreams - I don't know - whatever, collided years ago and it just took this long to play itself out. Two diff...

Clay, I would really love to hear the full story on this one. It seems like you have lots to tell! Thanks LPD. How much do you want to hear? The Reader's Digest version or the "pull up a chair, get comfortable because it'll be a while version"? I'll try to finish something up this weekend...

That is a pedal put out by one of the patron saints of the early DIY internet effort, Ed Rembold. We all lost a great deal when he decided to pack it in and go it alone. He would be one of the few I'd wish the greatest success for. The guy behind this one ain't like the rest. He helped build the fou...

I have no idea where the NTE960 came from... it shows up as a +5V regulator. http://www.nteinc.com/specs/900to999/pdf/nte960.pdf I'll look in my datasheets and notes. It's been so long I can remember hardly anything about it. Go with a transistor socket and sub whatever you desire. Pick any 1N400x d...

ZJ sorry, I meant that for all his blathering about his hearing "gift" - the "blessed with golden ears" trump card a lot of these guys pull out everytime they're asked a technical question they have no idea how to answer but they want to put it back in your face - he's failed dou...

I don't think we ought to bag on his wife or his God or what he looks like (that Hollywood shot btw is not him). Leave that crap out of it. His own self-centered-full-of-shitness is enough, in and of itself. (btw, hey John... I know you read this. I know you're addicted to it). This is right out of ...

There is an outfit called Creation Audio Labs that sells a box called The Redeemer. It's a very high class buffer. If you run your guitar into it and then into the rest of the signal chain, you'd be amazed at the added clarity of the bypassed sound. So you've played that then? I ragged on it pretty...

j201's will sometimes self bias... but yeah, resistors to ground will allow you to filter some low end and reduce intermodulation... probably the biggest advantage of cascaded gain stages. IME though if you don't run a resistor to ground at the gates, if you hit them with a hard signal they can run...

Hey, my favorite low watt guitar amp tube! It's about time. Excellent job Doug. Mine looks like a real bodge job, I know, but I just love the sound of this thing. I actually planned this crappy looking thing out through the whole amp building cycle... A first for me with no intentional clonage... an...

Hey Doug, no I haven't built that one or even heard it. I'm not much on fuzz really at all. It looks like you're right with the feedback thing. I didn't even think about that. I was just looking at it for what it was without a reference point. I'll give it shot sometime though; maybe. The ocd thread...

OT ref. the Cyberdrive's tone control. Dirk, what a neat little "circuit snippet"! Thank you very much for that and the wh-10 reference. I'll cut that tone control part out and post here for guy's to have a future tone control reference. Nice score on the EM-5. I'm partial to the PT2395 ch...

How much tone does a pull down resistor suck? How does the t-boost boost and what is it boosting? How does switching the second stage bias from a multisource TS style to straight dc coupling make for fat and thin? How does a parallel pair of caps do anything to a topend which a single cap of similar...

Tell you what, why don't we all just measure our schlongs and see whose is bigger??? Damn it, man. Why does it always have to be schlongs? *bitter, dejected grumblings* If we're going to start measuring body parts can we at least make it something like sweatiest beer belly or count the missing teet...

At dc the diode placement is irrelevant. At Q1 the reverse bias just sets the thing at a (perfect world) infinite resistance. Open. It couldn't care less at dc. Q2 forward biases in the same old same old shunt clipper way...just slightly varying the operating point. Blah. At ac the the diode placeme...

You may want to flip the V2b schem symbol upside down from what it is. I kept thinking "man, that's a weird mu-amp". It looks beautiful. It's not a "true" floater though. But it's close. The negative fixed bias voltages feeding the power side won't allow for it. That's the reason...

Nice. I'm about ready to polish a few Behringer turds myself if you're interested. I just got in the UC100 chorus pedal and the UF100 flanger and the DD400 digital delay is in the mail. I'm just going to put them in new boxes and move the jacks to the top end so I can squish them tighter onto the pe...
