Re: Maestro - FZ-1S Fuzz-Tone
I just built one of these, thanks for making the gerber files available. The 10n next to Q2 should be 100n. The 5n6 next to 1M5 should be 20n. The mods I've read about elsewhere have worked well: Adjust the 47k off Q4 to reduce gating. Lower the 470k from the flatter fuzz tone setting to match the s...

Re: Ace Tone - FM-3 Fuzz Master [schematic]
I did. R5 at 150k is a really unusual value there and helps make this the fuzziest, most distorted Big Muff I've ever built.

It looks like the "FD3-B Dual Range" https://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/gmelectronics/fd3/b (same unit as this one) https://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/gmelectronics There's also the potentiometer board: High #1, Low #1, Intensity #2&3 are connected. https://i.imgur.com/STLAYGW.jpg

Re: Univox - Superfuzz [schematic]
Thanks for the information. It sounds like the Ibanez will be different enough for me to try as I like the Superfuzz thing. I also made the Ace Tone FM-2
Have you seen the Guyatone TZ-2, which replaces Q1,Q2,&Q6 with op amp stages?

Re: Univox - Superfuzz [schematic]
What do you think of the Ibanez Standard WAU Fuzz, with the different first stage?
Also curious how the different tone control sounds.

Re: Univox - Superfuzz [schematic]
Adding the octave trimpot is just what I needed. It could just be a matter of taste as I had a matched pair in the octave section, but putting it a little off center sounded best to me with heavier sustain. I looked at the Watson Superfuzz clones, both the vintage looking FY-6 and the EFY-6 (with to...

Correction: the 100k (to ground) present on the original between the diodes and volume isn't on the Vision Octavia trace.

Re: Dunwich Wizard Fuzz [traced]
Vince, thanks for such a great tracing job! This is is a really heavy doom fuzz.
I built it using this vero layout:

Re: Mad Professor - Stone Grey Distortion [traced]
I also like the tone, but thought it needed more distortion, especially as it was marketed as being good for drop tunings. I've built two from different layouts. I experimented changing the 4.7k/47n to 1k/220n, as said above, which was good enough. I also tried 470ohm/470n for a very extreme metal d...

Re: Roger Mayer Vision Octavia [traced]
Thank you for your trace, I've been interested in this one for some time. I just drew up a tone control board to drop in my (2 control version) clone, replacing the 10n between Q2 & Q3, and it works well. https://i.imgur.com/bA2JXgx.jpg Now I'll do the other mods. Is this right to convert a stoc...

Re: ThorpyFX Fallout Cloud (formerly knows as Muffroom Cloud)
The Catalinbread Manx Loaghtan was another Muff with Baxandall EQ. The manual gave some suggested settings to get close to triangle and rams head mid scoops. https://catalinbread.com/pages/manuals Thanks for the good explanation on the tone control too. I've really liked it on other builds like the ...

Re: Keeley - Fuzz Bender [traced]
If not 2SD352B like the original, you can try an AC176 as used in the Tone Reaper, another silicon/germ hybrid MK3. Or see what susbtitutes others used in that. I'd like other suggestions as this circuit isn't usually using NPN transistors.

Big Thanks to Motter for the dismantling and tracing and thanks to: https://dirtboxlayouts.blogspot.com/2020/03/keeley-fuzzbender.html for a layout. Re: Keeley - Fuzz Bender [traced]
Yes, that's very good as the Buzzaround and Dizzy Tone didn't have normal volume controls. The bias "balance" pot to Q3 had to do double duty and forced you to compromise if you liked a sound that wasn't at the volume level you needed.

Re: Keeley - Fuzz Bender [traced]
Thanks, Motter. I did an overlay with the traces on the back. Bass and treble lugs #1 & #3 connect, as is normal for a gyrator 2 band. http://www.muzique.com/lab/gyrator.htm The 2SD352B mentioned upthread is NPN. Is IC3 set up as a voltage doubler for the other IC's? The "A" row on the...

Re: Sola Sound Hybrid GE-SI Tone Bender MKII
I built it last year from here, where you got the layout: http://dirtboxlayouts.blogspot.com/2019/10/damsolasound-tonebender-mk-ii-hybrid.html It's a small TBmk2 run mentioned on the DAM forum where Q2 &Q3 are low gain silicon, yet Q1 remains germanium, so it cleans up as you would expect. The g...

Re: Keeley - Fuzz Bender [traced]
I'm mostly curious about the BIAS control. It's a dual pot. Is part of it like the ones on pre-MKIII circuits like the Buzzaround and Dizzy Tone which control power to Q3's collector? Or like the difference between the earlier and later MKIII's (sometimes called MKIV) at Q1's base? That change doesn...
