Re: Good multimeter?
like buying separate stereo components rather than a rack system, I believe it is usually best to get the various (volt/ohm, cap) meters separately. When things are bundled together, quality is sacrificed. i'd go with a DMM in the price range above ($30-40) and get a separate cap meter. i've had go...

I realize this is not for everyone, and FSB is a VERY international community. I didn't even cross post here.

Discussion Thread Here is what I am shooting for: Mammoth will be our Vendor - Preliminary numbers look like this- --------------------------------------------------- Standard Alpha Pots are $1.09 individually-- If we move more than 500 (EASILY), a 30% price break gets us to $0.76/pot. Please remem...

I believe the gauge is smaller that 22, but the stuff sold HERE is bonded MUCH better than the Small Bear stuff. I use wires from both suppliers.

Could be the chip, could be the build (no offense), but the circuit is quiet.

Re: Guru Electronics - Big Cheese clone - Bad workmanship
Having taken one for the team and had a good search, I'm pretty sure it was a joke. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I tend to take comments by Europeans (in general, but especially non-Brits) a little more seriously and literally than comments from my naive and sheltered countrymen. Im...

Re: Little Headphone Amp
Would it be alright to use a stereo output jack and just bridge the L/R channels together? I'd hate to have sound in only one ear. Or build two and run them side by side? Becomes a mixer in a hurry, but one or two dual ganged pots would make it a winner. Not that I don't appreciate what is t...

Best stripboard advice I ever got was to drag a file or Exacto blade between the strip traces, to remove the whispy solder strands you cannot see. This would work for flux, too.
I have fixed problems that I could not see this way more than once.

Thanks Rocklander.
FWIW, for me, swapping out the 10K at R-18 and replacing it with a 1K was better to my ears.

I am being lazy, so I am not reading the whole thread.
But can you tell me if you are working on vero, or the PCB that was offered at GuitarPCB?
I bought one to try out months ago, and popped it last week, and it works as advertised for me.

Re: Female Terminal Connector for DC Jack Lugs?
You can also use washers on the inside to reduce thread exposure. It's not one of the nits I choose to pick myself, but I have heard the complaint before. I actually liked the external nut jacks when I had fewer builds under my belt, but I can see why the internal nut design is more popular, and I w...

Re: Need a Bass Players opinion
The BEST studio bass I ever had was a '65 P-bass with a '66 Jazz neck and the extra Jazz P/U mounted at the bridge.
I wouldn't mess with the bleeder cap size, but I sure wouldn't build him a souped up bass and then take away half the controls.
Unless he just plays C&W.

Re: The Big Catfight: ethics/cloning/copying/stealing/person
Why has no one pointed out the obvious, non-correctable control factor in these 'home' tests? Disclaimer - I really don't know (or care) about the answer about caps. Until I have built 20 of the same circuit, I have not heard enough samples of anything to get THAT picky about flavors of dirt. I was ...
