Re: Mosrite - Fuzzrite [schematic]
Thanks for the voltage and transistor specs. That is lower leakage than I thought. Most of my Ge trannys have higher leakage than that, though I have a few 2n404 that is similar to the 2n2613 spec. I was under the impression the Norman Greenbaum fuzz was a one-off custom build someone did for him an...

Re: Mosrite - Fuzzrite [schematic]
A lot of what I've read on gain advice for the Ge Fuzzrite simply doesn't match my own personal real world experience with the transistors they used. The RCA 2N2613 from that era nearly always measure well over 120 hfe (corrected) and 2N408's typically average around high 80's low 90's. Now, I will...

Re: Cesar Diaz - Texas Squareface
Just had one of these in for repair. Broken switch and cables. The fuzz pot was a 1k linear and NOT 2k in this unit. Everything looks original. The volume was 500k linear, 33uf and 2.2uf caps. The NTE103 transistors measured 250-300 hfe with geofex method. Leakage around 500ua. This means the collec...

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark I (1965) [schematic]
I got the idea from this page 8) http://www.guitar-pedals-effects.com/Page1.gif Just look at how q3 is biased. You could for example ignore the 470k going to q2 and keep the stock mkI attack(bias) for q2. There is a 33k as well in the schematic and one should add another resistor between the pot and...

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark I (1965) [schematic]
As I see it q2 bias is already variable with the attack knob. I tried several oc75 in q1 and they all seemed to work. There might be some small sonic differences though. oc75 have a bit of leakage 350ua is not unusual. When it comes to q3 you could keep the 8k2 and adjust the bias like this: Attach ...

Re: S. Hawk Ltd. - Hawk II Tonal Expander [schematic]
Thought about this again and I wonder what brand of inductors is in the reissues. I might be bourns 70F series. It looks like its the original 120R and 220R resistors in series with the inductors in the pedal, so that would mean the inductors are spot on in terms of dc resistance to the originals. I...

Re: S. Hawk Ltd. - Hawk II Tonal Expander [schematic]
Yes that gives the values 39mh 82mh and 390mh with 0.1u 1u 2.2u respectively. I will probably build it sometime this year with a pcb trace close to the original. But summer and olympics will delay it so don't wait for me...if I remember correctly you just have to adjust the two slider version for th...

Re: Colorsound - Power Boost / Overdriver
Sinner: That last vero seems to short out q2 collector on full drive. I have never liked the distortion produced by my overdriver clone. Yes the clean tone is nice with a lot of boost, and there is the fuzzy tones at max gain but the in between tones sound crappy in my build like something is biased...

Re: S. Hawk Ltd. - Hawk II Tonal Expander [schematic]
Thanks for the pictures jujub! :applause: It would be great if you can find any marking on the 3 big yellow inductors. It looks like they have been covered with yellow heatshrink. If there are no markings on them it is possible that removing the heatshrink will reveal the values. Be very careful if ...

Re: Fuzz published in 1968...
That circuit was first published in Electronics Australia in August 1967 in the article "A Fuzz box for electric guitars" by Anthony Leo. The schematic above misses the normal/fuzz switch. In "Fuzz" mode the 9V supply goes to 680k 6.8k junction, in "Normal" mode 9V goes...

Re: WEM, Watkins, Rush - Pepbox, Rush Pep Box [schematic]
Should i bias this circuit like a fuzz face? What voltages should i look for on each transistor? Heloo, I think my clone had around -6.5 to -7.3 on Q1 with hfe 90-70. Since fuzz pot controls bias on Q2 you'll see almost -battery voltage when fully off. When fuzz pot(I used 20k which is wrong) is fu...

Re: Faylon Fuzz Machien (1970)
I checked the trace photo and I think lolbous last schematic looks correct. Added component values as I see them, I'm not color blind but find myself squinting more these days. Maybe this is caused by looking at too many fuzzy photos and colored components. I guessed 10uf for the in and out caps but...

Re: WEM, Watkins, Rush - Pepbox, Rush Pep Box [schematic]
Thanks for the update EW. Interesting that it turned out to be a 10klog fuzz pot. I recently changed from 47k to 20klin because of the summer warmth. But had probably increased the 100r with a 10klog. Of course this all depends on leakage hfe and season. I think this might be the fuzz used on beatle...

Re: WEM, Watkins, Rush - Pepbox, Rush Pep Box [schematic]
The layout look alright. Check you collector voltages for misbias, effect pot maxed This box should produce a healthy output. Because of low input impedance it reacts similar to a fuzz face when lowering guitar volume, cleans up well. The output filter gives it a very beatle like treble sound. Like ...

Re: WEM, Watkins, Rush - Pepbox, Rush Pep Box [schematic]
Musicground gave me the cap values of the GE version WEM fuzz. It's 25uf 25V. They could not read the pot values. However It think it just a matter of tuning the bias/gain pot to the transistors. Anything from 20k-100k depending on leakage.

Re: Musitronics - Mutron Phasor II
From the trace pictures it looks like the schematic error is just like arayita said. Looking at the schematic the 0,47uf connecting to pin 7 and 5 on IC6B, should be connected between pin 7 and 6. Pin 5 goes to ground just like pin 2 on IC6A.

Re: Interfax - Harmonic Percolator [schematic]
mr.stahl I also saw your other video and it sounds very good. You also have a cool sound with the HP bypassed. I guess you are using the 220k 750k 20k bias resistors. I measured 10 2n404(bought from minifux) and they are all high gain, all above 160hfe using geofex method. I tried a 2n404 which had ...

Re: Interfax - Harmonic Percolator [schematic]
I just breadborded this thing using the sardonic albinator schem. I'm using 2n404 and 2n3565(hfe 260) but AA119 diodes(Vf around 0.3). It's got a healthy output but I don't get any crazy fuzziness like on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VkjUYxfoks . More of a smooth distortion. It's simila...

Just to clarify. The recent pics posted are from the same messenger owner who gave the cap values. So the cap values on that board are already posted. 1nf 100nf 120pf and 2uf. He also posted the youtube video. Without him we couldn't come this far. So P if you're reading this thanks again!
