Re: EH - Big Muff Pi ( Ram Head, Early Version )

A friend of mine just gave me his to repair, and it is this version exactly, even same brand of caps. I wonder where this one fits in the timeline? I haven't seen these values listed in the usual version schematics (though maybe I just missed it somewhere). Kitrae thinks the pots in these are usual...

Re: Colorsound - Power Boost / Overdriver

I've got a version of this from the 90s, no master volume, a friend won it in a guitar magazine competition and gave it to me. It has 'prototype' written inside the casing in pencil, which fits I guess with a magazine giveaway. Pots are dated 95. The question I have, I guess is- are they all like t...

I cannot find any information about the first transistor TIA02618. Any datasheet available?

There's some info in this catalog:

Here's a neat version. I can consider it confirmed now :D

Re: Vox - V816 Distortion Booster [schematic]

Nightraven confirmed my schematic. His unit has a 2.5µF instead of a 1.6µF, but I think other than that it's identical with the one I traced.

Thanks to nightraven and rafmax for helping me with this.

Enjoy!

Re: Vox - V816 Distortion Booster [schematic]

No, the germanium unit only has two transistors. They omitted the first stage, kinda similar to the WEM/Rush Pepbox, but with additional tweaks. Actually the article no. in the 1965 US catalog is V86. I guess could have been the UK version as it appears the US version was still in the works in Oct/N...

Re: Vox - V816 Distortion Booster [schematic]

The red ones come with two different circuits: One is germanium and FZ-1 based, the other uses a MK1.5/Fuzz Face topology, but it's different from the american version of which you posted the schematic.

Re: Colorsound Wah fuzz [schematic]

You misidentified the transistors. Q1 is actually Q2. Sorry, I went from left to right in the designation. If I change the current amplification of both BC238BP transistors in my simulation to 300 and take the resistance values from the Fuzzface Simulator, I get nearly the values you measured in yo...

Collector voltages are approx. 1.2V and 3.58V in my Wah Fuzz Straight - pretty much exactly what I got out of the caclulator:

Sounds good with none of the problems you have. 3.15V on Q2C should still be ok...

Re: HELp! Fuzz Face Clone Issues

I assume that the gain of the 2N2222 is too low for this application. I have found the following recommendation for this circuit: Transistors are BC108 or BC107 matched around 260 hFE for both Bias Q 1 Col lector to 1.35V, Q2 Collector to 5.75V For this selection, the BC107 and BC108 transistors mu...

Re: Effective, safe and lasting method against scratchy pots

Not a very attractive solution, considering how much the value of a vintage pedal is lost due to changed components. I get your point and it would be fine with a modern pedal. For the old one i would at least do my best to prolong good function of the old pots and am therefore wondering about the b...

probably 0.1µF for both. It's confirmed for the silicon version.

Re: Tone Bender II transistor bias issue

he suggested readings in the build doc are - Q1: C -8.5v B -0.05v E 0v With both trims at 100% - Q1: C -9.33v B -0.001v E 0v The base voltage of Q1 is determined by the collector base leakage current that flows through the 100 Kiloohms resistor between base and ground. Your read base voltage ist to...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot

Yes sir, exactly. There is a "D8" code on the "Fuzz" pot. RS (Radio Spares) UK potentiometers use only two digits. The first digit is a letter from A to L representing one of the twelve months of the year. The second digit is the last digit of the year of production. So, the “D8...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot

There's a fun article on the Zonk here: https://www.vintageguitar.com/23068/hornby-skewes-zonk-machines/ "Skewes translated that cultural shift into a business; with his wife, Madge, he founded his own musical-instrument company in ’65, from his home in Garforth, in West Yorkshire – far from s...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot

? The guy that had it before me is a very talented tube amp builder and actually pulled the 2N4061 and replaced it with an OC71, because he couldn't find any schematic or evidence of this version, so he thought it was an aftermarket repair/mod. I don't blame him. Ergh, you sure he's not a hack? :sh...
