Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
Also pins 2 and 4 on IC1 are not connected to ground but a different "net" in your Eagle schem, and are not grounded on the board. Both should be grounded. Just managed to nip home and after a quick hack to link those IC pins to earth its working like a charm! Thanks so much, again! :D I ...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
I tried -1, -3 and -4. You should see/hear clipping on the output from the first IC and the second IC in each case. Theoretical gain on stage 1 is 200 so anything over 45mVpp--an open power chord will do that--at the input should cause it to clip noticeably at the output. Did you add a current limi...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
So had some progress, realised one ground pad on the board wasn't actually connected to ground! I've not got signal coming through but there's no distortion, just a loud clean sound. I'm using LM386N-3 ICs, wondering whether that could have anything to do with it?

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
I've just populated a board from OSH that I laid out using the schem I posted earlier in this thread but I'm just getting a horrendous loud buzzing noise. I suspect it's a grounding issue perhaps but can't see anything obvious after checking parts orientation etc. Had a quick go with an audio probe ...

Just noticed you have an extra cap on your layout, was that some extra power filtering at a guess?johnk wrote:yours is the schematic that I used to make & etch my PCB, so yes.

[quote="johnk"]I just finished mine. it's in a 1590A & I added a gain control. IMO, it's 1000X better with it and it sounds MASSIVE!: http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/Effects/Fuzz-ODs/AcapulcoGold/AGold-01.jpg That looks great! I'm thinking about doing a board for this, is the ...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
Also forgot to mention the pot is A100K, not linear as the PCB would have you think. I guess the pot taper depends on location, in this case I'm guessing that it's linear as the code in the US is B for that, the pot itself could be the Euro designation of linear though, which is A. Would seem odd t...

Amazing! Thanks a lot Dan! Here's an updated schem based on Dan's pics; https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/42206482/Acapulco%20v4.png Still not 100% sure I have the layout correct, specifically the two caps and resistor between the ICs but we at least have the values, if anyone can verify that woul...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
Tried it with LM386 N-1 and JRC386D now. Both sound quite a bit better. Less flatulent. Ditching the 10uF from pin 1 to 8 also seems to cool down on the craziness, but I still find that using just one chip with caps in and out sounds a whole lot nicer. Softer, surely, but better. So it wasn't for n...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
Sorry just came to think: does it matter at all which kind of 386 I'm using? Mine is the LM386L, but I see there's an "N" available too and earthquaker are using the JRC386D... Am I on the wrong chipmobile here? Possibly relevant; https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=943...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
Put it on breadboard. The circuit works, but we knew that already. Whether or not it's the same, I can't tell. I only ran it through a Micro CUBE with a cheap headset, but from what I could tell, it had copious amounts of volume, but not a very nice tone (At least going from what we know and just a...

Re: Dunlop - QZ-1 Q-Zone [schematic]
Hi there, Not sure if anyone is following this thread but I'm attempting an Eagle layout for this and wondered if anyone could cast a critical eye over my schem? I've followed the schematic earlier in the thread so should be ok but sometimes it's hard to see the wood for the trees! ;) https://dl.dro...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
I don't ever post here (actually I think this is first post), but I'm intrigued by the concept of having a low parts count single "Power Amp Stage" to put as a tail end on stuff, so I ordered up some 386s and will be breadboarding and doing some research when the package from Tayda shows ...

Here's the schem as I have it currently, anyone up for verifying at all? Obviously there are values missing for some of the caps!

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
R1 shoul be a 1M. But reading 5 bands resistors value (in particular since they are 1/8 watt) is difficult. I watched a video of the pedal... not bad, I expectet more distortion. The nice thing is that it should serve as overdrive and also power a small speacker. Cool thanks, I've updated my schem,...

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Acapulco Gold [traced]
Thanks for the replies! I think you're right, pins 1 and 8 do look tied via that electro, I've tried to update my schem to show that along with some values I've worked out. This schem includes all the components I can see in what appears to be how they are laid out on the board, what do you reckon? ...
