Re: Dunlop gcb95 resistor specs preference?

Good on you for going DIY :)

If you are up for it, using a 50k trimmer or potentiometer in series with a 22k resistor would give you the ability to tune the exact input level desired.

Re: Marshall Drivemaster Mod (KOT + Aefa Drive)

The mods are in red, I'm unsure if the soft clipping in the first stage will work properly.. Yes, since the second stage is actively boosting the voltage seen on it's input it wont be a problem. Tone-wise it might be too compressed or even redundant, but it is really a matter of personal taste. As ...

Re: Voodoo Lab - Giggity [gutshots]

Here is my guess, based on the gut pictures and description form the company: 1. Input gain stage similar to DOD250 or MXR D+ : uses a reverse log taper as a variable resistor between the inverting input of an OA stage and a capacitor to ground or reference, so that you have a "fat" tone a...

Re: 65 Amps - Colour Boost [traced]

Hi folks I made a mistake and refused to trade a Colour Boost in a trade... and now it's sold... and I want it so bad that I am looking for schematics / pics / any infos that could give me enough informations to build it with its very efficient tone control. Many thanks Thomas Hi Thomas, Use this s...

Re: Providence Stampede OD SOV-2 [traced]

This is a +/-15V circuit. 9V is dropped to 5V on the SUB PCB by a TA78L005 3-pin regulator and then stepped up to +/-15V with a muRata NMA0515SC DC-converter. There's a cheaper way to obtain a +/-15V from a single 9V supply? Maybe using LT1044 or LT1054? Actually there is! Check the data sheet - th...

so what've we got here? led clippers for the hard clipping and 3 silicon diodes for the soft?
It's the secret pot - the "Super Cute"... all SMD parts inside make it really nice sounding

Re: Death By Audio - Robot [traced]

Regarding the schematic in this thread.... Does the Robot actually have switches on pins 1-3? Seems like all the functions are handled by pins 15-18. That rotary switch diagram makes no sense to me. It's explained in the datasheet of the chip. Either you use the rotary switch as done in the DBA Rob...

Re: Fulltone Plimsoul [traced]

how would you describe the sound in terms of frequency response? mid heavy? thick? grainy? etc.... The two different clipping stage sound very different on their own. I tried these out independently, interacting with the other control as well. The "Sustain" part gives a balanced full bodi...

Fulltone - Plimsoul [traced]

Hi guys, Before I start, I must say that all that you are about to read is pure a guesstimation from experimenting by ear, and not a traced circuit... So the other day I had the chance to play with a Plimsoul for a while. I must say that it sounds great and is a far better diode clipper than most. T...

Will probably get a "better" sound in terms of "audio quality" - whether you'd like it or not, is up to your ears to decide :)

Re: Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive [gutshots] + schematic [traced]

Can some explain the 47k/4n7 pair in parallel at the end of the circuit? Is it some sort of filter? (I've noticed emitting the 4n7 cuts alot the treble, or vice re-versa and the bass is just simply thinner) It is a simple Hi-Pass filter, similar to those you can see prior to the Volume pot on a Mar...

Re: hermida Nu-valve

I have tried several types of Nu-Vistors in the past. the 6CW4 were kinda horrible as gain stages in a distortion circuit - they sound fizzy, somewhat noisy and certainly microphonic. Lower volatage Nu-Vistors worked out much better, but still, to my ears at least, not worth the effort. As followers...
