Re: First build- signal cuts out after 2 seconds.

Check Vref, first off. It must be stable somewhere at 4.5V. Check if it is connected to all the points it should, pay attention not to confuse Vref with ground. Then check if the decoupling capacitors (C1, C2, C3, C8, C10, C11) are in place and not bridged. The problem looks to me like the biasing o...

Re: Testing LEDs and other diodes

It would take advanced knowledge in semiconductor physics to give you a comprehensive answer, I don't have it so I'll do what I can. The first thing that I tell you is to quit using the diode test mode of your DMM for testing leds. It is designed to test normal rectifier or signal diodes in common D...

Re: Testing LEDs and other diodes

It's normal to read different foreward V in LEDs. It varies with the colour, the type (ultrabright, standard etc.), and the size too I think. For a blue ultrabright led is normal to have a Vfw > 2V. I think that your DMM's diode test has a limit of 2V and then it goes out of reading. It would be bet...

Thank you very much!!!

If someone knows other brandes of similar switches, any suggestion is welcome!

Moog style rocker switches - where to find in Europe?

I always been actracted by the red and blue rocker switches you can find on the moog synthesizers control panel, of in the Moogerfooger effects series. Like these: http://www.sequencer.de/pix/moog/voyager_control.jpg I'm tired of using toggle switches... Does anyboby knows where to get something sim...

Re: Good input impedance

The key difference is that the drain presents a changing voltage, not a static voltage like ground or the + rail. This means for a changing input signal, more voltage is dropped across the resistor than if it were tied to a fixed reference. More voltage dropped means more current flows, which means...

Re: digitally controlling pots with arduino

they cost around $20.00AU which is probably around $17US. cheap as chips :) But you need a special software to get these programed? And some assembly langage skills? In Italy is costs 26€ http://www.robot-italy.com/product_info.php?products_id=878 . The programming language is Processing/Wiring, th...

Re: Good input impedance

I didn't do the calculations (those were by estragon), but just from a qualitative standpoint you can see the input Z can't be 5M. The top of the upper 10M resistor goes to the drain of the MOSFET, and when the input swings up, the drain swings down, making the 10M between drain and gate appear sma...

The Neovibe has satisfied hundreds? Thousands? of people over the more-than-a-decade that it's been available. I've built 2 of 'em, one for me and one for a friend of mine and we are more than satisfied, we are happy!!! :D Your "The technology of..." articles are milestones for DIYers. Wi...

Re: Good input impedance

SHO input impedance is not 5M, except perhaps when you remove the power supply. https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3971&hilit=crackle+not+okay#p43357 Good advice from Bajaman. :thumbsup I read that, but since my theory is quite rusted I can't get it. Would you please me exp...

Re: Good input impedance

Generally speaking, 1Meg of Zin is a reference point to have a good matching with the guitar signal. The Zvex Super Hard On has 5Meg and when set to unity gain it preserves more trebles. And it is considered to have a "super HI-Z". 25Meg would be just too much... Consider that a lot of goo...

Re: Banzai System is flawed!

I did many deals with banzai, 90% of them went OK. Occasionally I received wrong resistor/cap's values, no big deal. I only purchase electronics components, but some friends of mine had problems in getting "bigger" things such as guitar parts, effects, cases... such very long (up to 6 mont...

Somewhere I saw a guy that made a mold that fit over his teeth with a 3v watch battery and an LED in it. He had an LDR mounted at the end of what looked like an old telephone head set (the ones that have the mic out on a wand in front of your mouth) He was using it to control a Wah. Just open and c...

Re: Changing from PNP to NPN

Hey all, I'm starting work on a 1969 Boutique Fuzz Face tomorrow, assuming parts arrive. In the vero i have, it works on 2 PNP transistors, but, i have nearly three times the varities of NPN's than i do PNP's. SO, if i wanted to change the circuit to use NPN's instead of PNP's, am i correct in sayi...

Re: half wave rectification and Ge diodes

im not sure i understand what you are saying the reverse breakdown has to do with this whole equation. ii know that most of the characteristics on a diode datasheet are the max rating for voltage, current, temp, etc. but i'm not aware how those will fit into something like how they clip or rectify....

Re: hi Forward Voltage Ge diodes

but wait a second- with the schottkey that i have already tried, if i raised the gain before the rectification, wouldn't the crossover distortion still happen? just later in the decay? Exactly. If you want to get rid at all of that you could bias the signal passing into the diode at a voltage aroun...
