> Why is it 18V?
Larger headroom.
I run mine on 9V without problems.

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
Yes, the screen starts behaving as a plate, drawing lots of current, when its voltage goes above the plate voltage.
Please investigate why the plate voltage goes lower than the screen because this should not happen.

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
Great DIY project thanks! Because the two coils are oriented in the same manner, I guess the magnetic field of one inductor coil can couple into the other inductor coil. This will change the effective inductance and frequency response of the load box. Shouldn't the two inductors be oriented 90 degre...

The 0805 series = 2012 in metric, so that is correct.

Re: MXR - M-108 Ten Band EQ new version [schematic]
I googled "16V PEN FLM 3216" and one of the first hits was: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/kyocera-avx/CB017C0102JBA/3066281 That states "Film Capacitor 16V 25V Polyester, Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN), Metallized - Stacked 1206 (3216 Metric)". So I think C18 is from...

Re: MXR - M-108 Ten Band EQ new version [schematic]
I would search for "680nF smd". Then make sure that the voltage rating is at least 18V. Then look for the correct size: SMD components have a package size type like "0805 (2012 metric)" or "0603 (1608 metric)". I don't know which package size is used in this pedal. See ...

Yes as said, C9 is 3,3nF and C18 680nF. These are regular values that can be found in all the regular places (like AliExpress, Mouser, etc).

Re: MXR - M-108 Ten Band EQ new version [schematic]
C9 should be 3,3nF (3n3). The DC power voltage is 18V so the caps should be rated for at least 18V.

Re: MXR - M-108 Ten Band EQ new version [schematic]
The schematic that I have shows 2 capacitors for the 4kHz band:
C9 3n3 (inside the opamp feedback loop)
C10 33n (connected to 4kHz slider)

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
But on a 16 Ohm load, that same 100W amp yields 40VAC. That will not work with those caps.

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
These 100VDC F&T bipolar caps have a 35VAC spec. A 100W amp on a 8 Ohm load yields 28VAC. Should be ok I guess.

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
The full signal out of a distorting amp will flow through the cap at frequencies above the low resonance peak, so that can be quite a current, for a 100 W amp with a 8 Ohm speaker load this can be around 3,5 A. Is there anybody who checked the ripple current or ESR specs of the bipolar electrolitic ...

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
That will work but imo is overkill and way too expensive. MKP film caps are very expensive for large capacitance values. You need a Bipolar Non-Polarized electrolitic capacitor which will be much cheaper. I guess two of these in parallel will be good enough (don't know about the ripple current spec ...

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
I would like to know the same, about the wire diameter of the coils... I guess you should take DC resistance and the max current that goes through it into account. From: https://www.reddit.com/r/diytubes/comments/g4u1fj/question_about_component_choices_for_an_aiken/ "The current rating of the i...

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
It looks like a very good transformer and work well for the output but I think it is overkill. The MZ-L one from Lehle is cheaper and will also work fine I think: https://www.banzaimusic.com/lehle-transformer-mz-l.html I would use an even cheaper one like this: https://www.thomann.de/intl/monacor_lt...

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
When you "... recorded my amp's direct output with a dummy resistor load plugged into the speaker socket ...", what kind of speaker sim did you use, IR or something else perhaps? An alternative for this Suhr reactive load is the Aiken Amps reactive speaker load design: http://www.aikenamps...

Re: Suhr Reactive Load [schematic]
Ah right your amp already has a Line Out from the speaker output, you'll be fine.
