Re: MOOG Moogerfooger MF-103 12-Stage Phaser [schematic]
There is a fundamental design flaw with this circuit - the LM13600 / 13700 is both noisy and distorted. Put a few of them after one another, and the problems will be multiplied! Is the Moog design not companded? 12 stages of phase shift have a pretty high noise floor regardless of architecture with...

Re: JHS/EHX Lizard Queen
I'm still confused though as by posting the board this was going to come out really quickly anyway. The PCB design with the carbon comps and artful traces is part of the art package that sells the big limited edition one. They knew they would sell all 1000 in an hour or so. It getting traced the ne...

Re: JHS/EHX Lizard Queen
Two years of development for this product doesn't necessarily just mean two years to draw a schematic and pick values. The business deal that allows the product to exist is likely pretty complex and figuring out the exact execution for every component and all the additional faked marketing materials...

Re: JHS/EHX Lizard Queen
I wasn't talking about the $99 one, I was talking about the big box one. One of the selling points of it was "just like it was the 70s". The crap switch is fine for the $99 unit, and it will fail, soft click or not. But If I paid $350 for the big box one, I would not want some crap switch...

Re: JHS/EHX Lizard Queen
I have to wonder, no LED... then why use a crappy 3PDT footswitch instead of a Carling DPDT that lasts 50x longer? I mean for $350 you could at least use top shelf parts that were available back then. Not surprised it's one of Tim's circuits at all. People are really into a bunch of old parts on th...

Re: Origin Effects Cali76?
the marketing doesn't mention any transformers The original Cali76 models came with multiple transformer options and respective model numbers in addition to a standard model with no transformer. The compact series is more pedalboard focused so they removed all those options from the various pedals.

Re: Frantone - Vibutron [traced]
So, I have two ICL8038 laying around and want to have a crack at the Vibutron. If I got that right from the video modman linked, one reason many people seem to have trouble with this circuit might be that the 8038 isn't really designed to operate on a single 9V supply. Therefore, Fran had to select...

Re: 1981 - Inventions DRV [traced]
That's almost surely a typo on the schematic. Like whoever drew it needed another vertical orientation resistor and they just copied the bias resistor and forgot to change the value before publishing.

Affordable PCB fab houses have made high quality clean builds so much easier to achieve in the last decade compared to the 2000s.

Re: Lone Wolf Audio - Endless Blockade [traced]
That PCB layout looks interesting. That's what happens when you use the autorouter in Eagle instead of laying out components effectively and drawing the traces yourself. This design could very easily be laid out without vias but Eagle's solution to most problems is to just bounce the signal around ...

Re: Does the EHX Frequency Analyzer really need 40 volts?
Depending on the current draw from the 4 ICs you might be able to pull it off with an LT1054 providing +/- 18V but I suspect it might perform better with one LT1054 for the positive voltage and another for the negative voltage.

Some of the doubling is perplexing though. They parallel 100n throughout to achieve 200n coupling caps but then parallel 47n when they could have just used a single 100n they already had in the BOM.

The diode compensation is legit. I've thought of ways to manage that and avoid LEDs always sounding best just because they're louder but this is a very elegant situation.

Re: Analogman KOT Mystery "H" IC
A long time ago someone on DIY stomps suggested repainting resistors to change apparent values as a diabolical way to throw off would-be cloners working from photos. Interesting to see analogman actually did it.

I'm having a weird oscillation issue with the level and drive controls at max on this circuit that I can't really figure out. I've seen a few folks mention a similar issue but no apparent resolution. Im wondering if it could be an issue with the JFETs since the rest of the circuit should have much v...

Re: BJF - Baby Blue Overdrive [ goop-alarm ] BJFE
Resurrecting this thread, did anyone ever trace one of these out? I have one but would like to try and avoid destroying it by de-gooping it, any suggestions as to the best way to go about it? Thanks. I doubt you would destroy it as the goop is soft. You would just have to pick it all away. You coul...

Wtf. Here I was, thinking this would be some awesome reverb type thing, and all it is is a big muff pi without the tone section... Re: EHX Pitch Fork
I currently use a Micro POG to simulate bass in one of my rigs. I have a Pitch Fork in the mail to replace the POG because it has a pure octave down while the Micro POG always has a tiny bit of dry and octave up bleed which lends an unwanted synthy quality. However, the Pitch Fork doesn't have the d...
