Re: T-Rex Hobo Drive [schematic]
The guitar player in my band uses this pedal as his primary overdrive. It sounds great and he is completely in love with it. Like most T-Rex stuff, it's probably derivative of something else (maybe a fulldrive?), but I'm curious to know what's inside too.

Re: resitor networks, any reason not to use them?
There should be no detrimental effect from using smaller size resistors. As long as they meet your power requirements, they are fine.
Component technology has improved a lot over the years. Things keep shrinking in size. It doesn't mean that they are lower quality.

Re: Emerson Custom Guitars E-M Drive. [traced]
Glad someone figured out the right transistor for this circuit. The 2n5088 noted in the layout is definitely NOT appropriate here. It has far too much gain. I did some quick spice simulations, and with a 2n5088 the amplifier is biased just above ground and basically producing lots of hard asymmetric...

Re: Best Mods for a Black Russian Big Muff?
The Black Big muff is a great sounding circuit on it's own. If you think it sounds like "crap" then maybe you just don't like muffs. The biggest thing you can do to alter the sound is decrease the values of the two caps in the feedback loops that are in series with the diodes. You can also...

Re: asian metal film resistor kits on ebay?
I ordered some about a year ago from one of those companies on ebay and got fakes. All of these sellers seem to use the same collection of stock pics from the same supplier, because I've seen the exact same pictures from several different sellers. The seller I ordered from even had the pics with the...

:slap:  Sorry Lohstah. I just looked back on this thread and I realized I've acted like a complete dick without even being aware of it. I really apologize for my attitude. My posts on this thread have been a combination of mis-communications, joking around, and pointlessly thinking aloud, but ...

check out the sprinkle drive, which is a simplified version of the sparkle drive. the blend is implemented in a different, easier way in the sprinkle. cheers, lohstah The "Doo Doo Labs Sprinkle Drive" has absolutely nothing to do with the "Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive" other than t...

Re: Fulltone Bass Drive [traced]
I get a lot of mileage out of that circuit but usually I add a "Sean B-blender" to the unit. (and yes, I am also a bass player!) The B-blender is the same one I use. It's a nice, easy little circuit to just drop into any pedal. Do you mix the signals before the volume knob or at the outpu...

Re: Fulltone Bass Drive [traced]
Just as I supected. It's a fart factory!!!!! FARTY, FARTY, FART, FART. One of these days I'm going to make a real bass overdrive pedal and show these guys how it's done. I can't believe people actually spend $200 on this thing well until you do i guess the world will just have to use substandard fa...

Re: Ceramic caps?
IMO, if you are going for "high quality" you wouldn't be using ceramic caps in the first place. I know what you mean, I don't normally use them -- but if you want to clone the sound of certain vintage pedals, that's what they used. I use them too. They have the "right" lo-fi sou...

Re: Fulltone Bass Drive [traced]
i actually found the 100n to muddy up the sound too much and went with 22n. the 22n is used in all the other bass drives that have been checked by diy´ers here and somewhere else, bernarddur´s encounter sems to have been a rare specimen. in general with bass drives and fuzzes, hitting the front wit...

Re: Fulltone Bass Drive [traced]
I had some in here for some clean blends and some had an input cap of 100n, others had one of 22nF. I posted the schematic somewhere on this forum. 22nf should be high enough to let all audible frequencies through, but for some reason I can still hear a very slight difference when I change the inpu...

Glad to help!! (how ever that may be....my info ain't that technical!!) You spoke about parts briefly..... For my build I made sure I used EXACTLY the parts specced!! ie. the EXACT opto-coupler VTL5C10, the exact opamps and the exact 20k pots!!... have you done the same or have you subbed the opto-...
