Re: EchoPlex PCB First Attempt Advice [SOLVED]

I can see at least two mistakes already ;-)
Out pin not connected, R6 should be connected to it instead of to C3, and the pot wiring is totally wrong - there should not be a trace between pins 1 and 3 - leave pin 3 not connected like in the picture on the right side !

Re: BK Butler True Overdrive Rev 2 hums

make sure that you run the series tube heaters ground wire on it's own separate connection wire back to the ground connection of the AC input socket. Never mix this ground connection with the signal ground.

Re: Buffer adding hisssssssss

try inserting a 100 ohm resistor in series with the output from the charge pump to the opamp pin 7, and then connect a 220uf (at least 35v) capacitor from pin 7 to ground ;-)

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

Please read the first line of my original post and contemplate why I was reticent to share my subjective observations - as Thomas said to Jesus "show me the holes - i want proof"
None so blind as those who will not see, and none so deaf as those who will not hear ;-)

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

Has anyone actually tried my suggestion yet ? I would very much like to hear from you. As I previously stated - I am not interested in proof, recordings measurements etc. If you decide to ACTUALLY TRY my suggestion (with a clean not over distorted signal) then I would be very pleased to hear your th...

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

Yesterday I had two Fender amplifiers in the workshop - a Hot Rod Deluxe and a Hot Rod Deville. I changed the first 22n capacitor after the input stage in both amps - used a TAD 22n mustard and the results were not subtle - I had the customer watching me for the Deville - first i played my strat int...

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

Also, if you can hear it, then you can definitely measure it. So swapping caps and doing some frequency spectrum analysis should clearly show up differences. Please feel free to do so with the suggested 22n TAD mustard capacitor versus a generic reddish brown chinese 22n 630v polyfilm capacitor wit...

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

I just listened to the video. I could hear differences between the different caps, though they were subtle. Well - i could not hear any difference at all because they all sounded distorted  Perhaps if he had compared any cheap Chinese 630v polyester capacitor with the SPECIFIC Tube Amp Doctor ...

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

completely missing the point  - but hey, that is exactly what i expected, so more fool me for actually suggesting it - just by chance has anyone tried using a philips or mullard mustard capacitor OR a TAD mustard capacitor ?
AND - try using a CLEAN tone not distortion ;-)
cheers

Re: How to improve tube amplifier tone by changing one part

yes - i have heard good reports about those sozo capacitors as well. I will order a few and give them a try too. no need to go crazy replacing all the coupling capacitors though, as in my experience it is that first coupling capacitor after the input tube that makes the most difference to the "sound...
