Re: A BETTER FLANGER - Electronics Today January 1987 [documentation]

Does anyone know if there are direct pin-for-pin substitutes
for the TDA 1022 ?

TDA 1022 is a 16-pin IC while MN 3004 is 14-pin, and
SAD 512 is an 8-pin chip, and their pin layouts are different.

A BETTER FLANGER - Electronics Today January 1987 [documentation]

Well, I am being retrenched from my job after over twenty years. So while packing up my considerable belongings (like moving house, really), I happened to find this 30-year old Electronics Today International magazine still at the bottom of my side chair. Looks like a pretty good design. Based on th...

Re: DOD FX-85 Harmonic Enhancer [schematic]

Thanks for your time and all the hard work, Dino.

Actually, I think this kind of board is more versatile and
easier to lay out a circuit on.

Re: DOD 505A HARMONIC ENHANCER [schematic]

Note that the MC14007, or CD4007 equivalent, used in the FX85's circuit
to switch it on and off, is a CMOS inverter, and should be handled with
care in case of damage by static.

Another exciter by the Lell, the Russian company. LELL EX-9 EXCITER. http://www.lell.ru/php/template.php-btn=1&m_id=10.htm Note that it also enhances even harmonics. Translated : " Exciter enriches signal higher even harmonics (overtones) in the midrange and high-frequency areas, the number...

Strange, this forum seems to have no button to edit the post.

Here's the Tomoyatsu Hotei video again, in case the earlier link
does not work.

Re: Guyatone's PS-021 Guitar Exciter [schematic]

The Guyatone exciter was used and popularized by Tomoyatsu Hotei, the lead guitarist of the Japanese pop band, Boowy, in the 1980s. That is why when you search for the Guyatone PS-021 on the net, especially in those Japanese auction sites, you will see the name "Boowy" listed along with th...

Re: DOD 505A HARMONIC ENHANCER [schematic]

Here is the Dod FX85 Harmonic Enhancer's circuit diagram, sent to me by Dod recently. It was in PDF, but shown sideways, so I converted it to a photo. I bought it for a friend in 1986, but of course it has already been long lost. I have not constructed any effects for decades, so have long lost trac...

Re: DOD 505A HARMONIC ENHANCER [schematic]

Some similiar effect was made by Boss. It's called the EH-2. I got two of them but sold one. It's a effect that adds brilliance to your guitar tone. Personally I like this pedal very much. You can read a thread about it: https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4351 Service Manual is ...

DOD - 505A Harmonic Enhancer [schematic]

This exciter-type pedal by Dod, one of their "Performer" series of the early 1980s, looks very versatile and worth building. It has an additional "Enhance" control in addition to the "Presence" control, unlike the later FX85 Harmonic Enhancer which had only a "Pres...

Re: Guyatone's PS-021 Guitar Exciter [schematic]

Here's another exciter circuit.

I think the "Phase Shift" switches between odd and even harmonics,
and couldbe replaced by a variable resistor like that of the Guyatone's.

Re: Guyatone's PS-021 Guitar Exciter [schematic]

After making a similar post on this great effect in the DIY Stompbox forum, one of the members there actually ordered one. Here's his video in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYV2yWIbLnw The main part of the circuit is built around Sanyo's LA6324 quad op-amp, of which replacements are the LM324,...

schem...... Hi Borislav, Where did you manage to find this schematic ? Might you have seen one for the PS-021 Guitar Exciter which I have posted in another thread, or even the PS-020 Bass Exciter ? Apparently, Guyatone made a second bass exciter, PS-038 B II, presumably a follow up to the PS-020. h...

Re: A Problem with DIY fuzz stompbox FX pedal

It's the BazzFuss circuit. Or the 7 minute fuzz from that youtube channel http://home-wrecker.com/bazz.html I'm about to try it myself as it gets so good reviews. Sounds like any dirty 60s-type fuzz, really. You'd make more worthwhile use of your time constructing the ''Smooth Fuzz'' posted. The lo...

Re: A Problem with DIY fuzz stompbox FX pedal

I have posted the Smooth Fuzz project. Check it out.

You can do it on a Veroboard as shown in the second link,
or you may ask a friend to make the PCB for you.

Here's an even simpler fuzz for beginners, from the same
magazine, you can easily construct.

SMOOTH FUZZ

This was from the September 1979 issue of ''Practical Electronics'' magazine. I built this in 1986, initially with a Veroboard and a plastic box. A guitar luthier in a local part-time amateur band, who actually made his own Ibanez Musician-type guitar, later made a couple more for himself and his se...

Re: A Problem with DIY fuzz stompbox FX pedal

Is that even a fuzz circuit ? How can there be only one diode ? I think you've been conned. How much did you pay for it ? I'll post this ''Smooth Fuzz'' which I constructed in 1986, a bit later. Easy and cheap to build, apart from getting a diecast box. Still a little fuzzy, but otherwise a good, pr...

This guy describes exactly what I was trying to tell you people about this effect. '' My friend used one on his setup around 1986, in line after the distortion unit, such as Boss’s Heavy Metal. You could get virtually any kind of distortion sound with it, because the “Color” control, you can vary th...

SHAPED FUZZ

From a small DIY guitar electronics book which I bought in the mid-1980s. I remember building this for a friend at that time. I think it sounded halfway between an overdrive and distortion. The circuit obviously has to be modified to be of use in practice. I think R6 can be replaced with a 500k vari...
