Highway 89 Weird power issue
I have built an old favorite from this board, the Highway 89 from Doug Hammond. This pedal kills. The tone is rocking and ballsy and the clean up is great!! I was trying to let the other guitar player in my band use it and I discovered a really strange issue that we have tracked down to a power issu...

Re: Changing gain pot value in Boss SD-1 mod
Thanks Manfred,
I probably will end up changing C3/R6 but the pot issue is something I was trying to iron out my understanding.
Great chart. That is a big help.

Changing gain pot value in Boss SD-1 mod
I am not sure I really understand how pot value works for the gain control in a circuit. I'm hoping somebody can explain like I am 5. I modified an SD-1 and changed R6/C3 to give the pedal more gain. It still has the stock 1M pot. I have all the gain I need at about 12 o'clock. Am I correct in assum...

Stacked Op Amps
I'm curious about stacked op amps. Is this something that offers any benefit in tone? A google search reveals some old threads where it gets debated and I know that some of the popular Boss mods utilize stacked op-amps. Is this something I should experiment with or has it been settled that there is ...

What enables an overdrive pedal to clean up?
Can someone explain what helps a dirt pedal clean up with guitar volume? I recently did an SD-1 to OCD mod I found on another forum and it sounds really good and cuts through the mix nicely at stage volume. While it cleans up reasonably well, it does not clean up as well as I would like. It definite...

Cleaning and revamping an old pedal
I am fixing an old MXR Distortion+ for a friend. To the best of my knowledge it is a 1980. It needs a new battery snap and possibly a new pot. Apparently, these pedals were packed inside with some kind of foam, possibly for shock absorption. After almost 40 years it has eroded and turned into some r...

Re: MI Audio Crunchbox Mods
Not really, I think. It`s just an opamp and diodes to ground that cut the signal. It`s possible to make simple diode clipping circuits more responsive, but it needs a few more parts. The Mad Professer Sweet Honey is a good example Roseblood, Can you elaborate on what the MP Sweet Honey is a good ex...

Re: MI Audio Crunchbox Mods
Manfred,
To be clear, you are suggesting using the trimpot to find a value that achieves the desired result I am looking for, measuring the resistance and then placing that value in the circuit?
Thanks,
Kevin

MI Audio Crunchbox Mods
Are there any mods for the MI Audio Crunchbox that will enable it to clean up better with the guitar volume knob? I built a BSIAB II and I like the way it cleans up with my guitar volume. It seems like the CB would be less of a one trick pony if there was a way to address this.

Difference in sound between different color LEDs
I'm a relative n00b at this and I am curious to know if there is a difference in sound between different colored LEDs when used as clipping diodes in an OD/Distortion circuit. I know the forward voltage ratings differ but does that affect the sound of the end product? Thanks Moderator: I don't know ...
