What's the point of designing a circuit with an amp tone stack, if the signal is going into another circuit with an amp tone stack?

Seems like radio interference is most likely to come through the inductor. Why not cover the inductor with a shield of some sort and ground it?

Re: RMC - RMC1 Wah (Geoffrey Teese)

Ok, so what's the deal with the 10pf caps? Looks like some local feedback to reduce high end? Personally, I can't get ENOUGH high end out of a wah. I don't go full toe-down that often, but when I do, I want to inflict PAIN on the audience.

Eloquently put. That was my impression also.

Re: Sitori Sonics Brownies and Cream

I really don't want to reignite the hellfires, but I don't really get this reverence for a designer when the whole purpose of this forum is to build pedals without giving money to the designer. When you build a pedal from somebody's schematic, you don't send him $5 (14.50 zlotych) for his design, d...

Re: Sitori Sonics Brownies and Cream

Yeah, I "designed" the circuit, although I'm not really comfortable with that word. The cascaded mu-amp thing was originally the mini-tubes by Jack Orman, and in the diy community there's been variations on that theme, I was inspired by Aron Nelson's Booster 2.5 and Doug Hammond's Sweet Th...

Re: Sitori Sonics Brownies and Cream

Received one of these in a trade the other day and as usual I opened it up just to check the build quality and see what was what. The outside looks very professional. The inside... not so much. It doesn't take a genius to spot the General Guitar Gadgets BSIAB2 PCB inside this $168 distortion pedal....

Re: Dr. Z - Air Brake

Seems like the high-frequency loss should be able to be corrected using a bypass capacitor arrangement. I'm getting ready to build one. I find that my Weber MiniMASS thins out the bass of my amp too much and at moderate attenuation levels, it actually distorts the bass. I think the speaker motor is ...

Re: Okko - Diablo Boost+ (goop pics!!) [traced]

"Gain" is short for "voltage gain." So, if you increase voltage to a gain device, you increase gain. Problem is, people use "gain" and "distortion" or "drive" interchangeably. I can see how that happens in circuits that are designed to distort. Incre...

Re: Okko - Diablo Boost+ (goop pics!!) [traced]

I've run it off 18v. It becomes really gainy. Lots louder too. I've come up with an 18v design but I've had to revoice it and restructure the gain.

The white component marked "Axicom" is a relay. Some of the mode switching boards for DP (dynamic positioning) systems I install use the 24 volt ones.

I'm sure whatever mods he's incorporated, it's nothing new. Is it really that important to know every last resistor and capacitor value for this circuit now that it's been established that the basic architecture is Tube Screamer? If I was interested in this, I'd breadboard a TS circuit and start try...

I've long been interested in the 4049-based distortions. All the clips I've heard sound so natural and rounded and sweet. I've just been so "married" to the jfet-based distortions that I've never stuck a 4049 on my breadboard, but it's been calling me. The runoffgroove page has a "dou...

Re: Cornish P-2 guts

I think the reason top artists use his stuff is that they know that it WILL WORK. When you are playing on stage in front of 50,000 people, the last thing you want is for your pedal to crap out on you. I've heard subjective things about the tone of these units; some good, some ambivalent. But I think...

You know, I thought about that, that it seems that all the people who get Dumbles or Dumble clones are interested in is getting that polite, polished tone like Robben Ford. Robben amazes me with his playing but bores me with his tone. But I have considered that those amps could well be possible of m...

Anyone ever play a Menatone Kar Krash? I find the Trainwreck circuits sound more rock 'n roll than Dumble and I wonder if Menatone captured that in a pedal. Dumble tones are too polished and refined for rawk.

Re: DIY Guitar headphone amp w/ Clipping Distortion

Looks cool. I've always been interested in "rolling my own" version of the rockman. Some headphone amps, I find, sound rather harsh in the high end. I'd like to experiment with filters to reduce this.
