Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
I am using these: https://www.aliexpress.com/premium/VTL5.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.1000002.0&initiative_id=SB_20230301114959&dida=y They use a red led and seem to work fine in most circuits - my problem with the bass butler at the moment, is that I don't seem to be getting enough signal to...

Hi bajaman,
are you using VTL5C3 or your own LDRs?

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
Compressor works but requires proper optocoupler. I've tested couple different led colors and ldrs. So far - only one is acceptable - red led and GL5549(probably). With other ldrs there's a stutter effect. Compression is not smooth. Tuck - can you check the compressor with only the clean channel on?...

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
I have both channels plus output section (IC4) on a breadboard now. Clean channel with compressor, but compressor still not verified. I don't have VTL5C3 so I took random diy ldr, but the only effect of rotating compression knob is higher clean signal. Compressor status led blinks.

Missing connection between R77 and C48.
JGND not connected to GND. FSG also floating - should be GND too?

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
Wrong name of the 100n capacitor (IC2). Looks like it's C38, not C33.
Wrong name of the 100R resistor. Should be R111, not R66. Also, according to the schematic: R112 -> P3, R111 -> P2.

I know that S and D are interchangeable. But this would be the first time I see it on a pcb.

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
There's something not right around Q1. R4 connected between Gate and Source? Also, the pinout seems to be reversed. Top-right pin of the Q1 it's a Drain and should not be connected with R5.
I haven't checked other transistors yet.

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
Any suggestion where to buy 9mm dual A500k? I think I would replace all the 9mm potentiometers with 16mm.

Hi bajaman.
Looks like pin 3 of the RV3 goes to pin 1 of the RV4. Pin 2 of the RV3 to C20.

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
Also - to me, MID pot looks like B50K, not 25K. At least text on a pcb.
Are there any markings on the LDR except those visible on the picture?

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
Europe here. Beware: the pins of the top side of the pins is not directly related to the pins of the bottom side. I should have flipped them around. Europe here too. I think it may be wired like this. OB-mid2.jpg Pin 1 of the MID (blue dot) to GND. If yellow dot on your drawing indicates GND than y...

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
Looking at the picture now.. can't see any trace between pin 2 of the MID potentiometer and side pins.
can you verify how the MID potentiometer is connected? 1, 2 or 3? Does turning the MID clockwise add or scoops the mids?
When you set the EQ knobs to zero, does the signal drop out?

Re: Orange Bass Butler [schematic]
I have drive channel on a breadboard now. 18V supply, 17.5V VB, MMBFJ201 with Vp around -0.73V -> drain voltage measures around 11.7-11.8V. Sample with a guitar. Recorded through the audio interface, added 4x12 V30 IR. Just to demonstrate EQ range https://www.dropbox.com/s/vl63oueer1wledx/ob2.wav An...

Re: Exar OD-02 OverDrive
I went with J112s and a BC550/BC560. This thing sounds pretty damn good. Slow boiling overdrive with very nice crunch texture. Straight forward discrete opamp driver. I've just tested J113, MMBF5457, MMBFJ201, MMBF5485, MMBF5458. Differences are rather suble, at least to my ears. Here's quick compa...

No.
Just different marking for log/linear tapers. Polish company Telpod taper codes:
- linear: A; M+N,
- non-linear: B; C; S.
