Re: Tech21 SansAmp - TRI-A.C. (TRI-AC) [schematic]
Here's a relatively easy mod for this device - these are clearly designed for going direct, rather than run into a traditional guitar amp. I suspect many people grab them and plug them into an amp and get less than pleasant results due to the mid notch circuit. But with a simple mod this will sound ...

Re: Fryette Effects SAS EF86 Overdrive [traced]
I have one too and the pedal sounds great if I cut down the treble on my DRRI head otherwise it's just too harsh but then my other pedals don't sound good. Any suggestions which capacitors to change... to tame down the harshness. Anyone knows what to do with volume issue too? Thanks! From the schem...

Re: ZVex Mastotron [guts, schematic, PCB layout] [traced]
Just wanted to note that the 500k pinch/100k feedback resistor is a good area for expirimentation. 100k is not a bad value (which you get if you "jumper" the PW/Pinch pot), but you can get a lot of interesting fuzz/drive range below 100k. 10k even, maybe 1k or 2.2k, or anywhere in between....

Re: Micro Synth XO Version EHX (half-schematic) [schematic]
I know it's a little late, but I'm comparing schematics of the old to the XO version. Not that the old schematic didn't have a few errors, but I breadboarded most of it (Especially the filter and trigger sections) running on bipolar power, so I'm familiar with the errors on the late "original v...

Re: Trace Elliot SMX Dual Compressor
Take as many pictures as possible, both sides, some angled shots of the component sides so component values can be read, anything where holding the pcb up to the light reveals some of the traces helps...etc
More is better most of the time in terms of pcb photos to yield a schematic.

With the schematic in hand, you should be able to locate the components/wires that feed the input and output of the circuit via continuity.

Re: ROYAL - FUZZ BOX
A couple of things to consider - the original transistors were 2SC828 throughout. These are quite low Hfe in the original units. If you use modern high Hfe devices, they sound quite different. Use 2N2222. Good advice IMO. I like the 2N2222 and it's variants for circuits that are fuzz and/or trying ...

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark I (1965) [schematic]
I'm not super techie...but in a circuit that is transistor based...here is my understanding.... Hfe only tells you so much. Maybe the circuit was designed around a certain understanding of the transistors being used...and then, given how variable old components like GE transistors are, and how tuned...

Re: EH - Deluxe Octave Multiplexer
My question involves the highlighed resistors. They look to be either 10k or 100k, but it's a big distinction at this location in the circuit. Is the EH man here? I knwo the schematic says 10k's here, basically, but the schematics allegedly have some intentional errors to throw people off, even if n...

Re: EH - Deluxe Octave Multiplexer
Can anyone else post good high-res shot of at least the component side? I believe there are some component errors, particularly in the tracking filter section, but I'd like to be sure, and the current collections of images here and around the net leave a little bit to question. Does anyone here OWN ...

Re: Maxon CP-9 Pro+ Compressor schematic ?
I'm rather surprised no one has gut shots of this, if it's still on the market.... I'd figure it was either a poor seller (hard to find someone with one), or a good enough seller that it's still around, and someone would have one. Honestly - while this compressor interests me, especially because it ...

Re: Micro Synth XO Version EHX (half-schematic) [schematic]
I don't know that I'd trust the schematic. One thing you can do in some areas, if things are on the breadboard, is refer to the arrangement of components on the earlier versions, for reference...there may be errors in the schematic, a personal error you made in duplicating it on the breadboard, a wr...

Re: Micro Synth XO Version EHX (half-schematic) [schematic]
From what I understand, it's not unlike the Boss OC-2...clean signal and sub-octave signal blended....buta bit like a VCA where the clean signal acts like the gate for the suc-octave signal. Maybe the stompboxology article on sub-harmonic synthesis will help. Even if not directly addressed there you...

Re: Fulltone - Secret Freq [traced]
To me, anything that is active EQ (as good as it might be) is usually the antithesis of "natural." Well, I guess all the pedals that use the tube screamer tone control (or a varation with different component values), the Xotic pedals, the Ampeg V-series and SVT amps, the whole Tech 21 cha...

Re: Ibanez - CP9 ( Compressor/Limiter ) [schematic]
'Old' type CP9 is more or less a Ross type with a LM13x00 chip - lots of info out there in that regard. But if it works and has value as an old pedal (or re-issue? not sure of the value of this pedal in the current market) you could easily build one cheaper, quieter, etc. There is somehow a differen...

Re: Micro Synth XO Version EHX (half-schematic) [schematic]
generally in low voltage electronics, 1n914 and 1n4148 are the same. I think some diodes I got the other day actually were labeled 1n9148. I have a strange sense of humor, but I found that funny. Those two diode types are more or less 'generic' silicon types. They're not for ultra high voltage, ultr...
