i had no idea the MXR was an 1176, i'll need to pick one up. not too expensive used.

and wow bugg, great work so far! looking forward to seeing the results if you find the time to finish :)

Re: Darkglass - Intelligent Footswitch

why put so much electronics in a footswitch? why not stick all that stuff in the amp? or better yet, just let the microcontroller in the amp listen for the footswitch turning on and off, instead of decoding the "proprietary communication protocol." i guess it forces you to buy their footsw...

Origin Effects Cali76?

anyone have one of these they can open up? the original 1176 is crazy expensive these days. i thought it'd be pretty elaborate, but looking at the original 1176 schematic, seems like a couple JFETs and a some BJTs. presumably the pedal removed the 5532 differential input. and the marketing doesn't m...

Re: Fulltone - OCD [traced]

on their own, adding those LEDs doesn't change the frequency response. however, since the LEDs cause soft-clipping, they will give a warmer and bassier sound from the opamp clipping section when the gain is turned up high. that means more bass hits the diodes shunted to Vb. in theory the amount of s...

Re: Fulltone - OCD [traced]

Since Fuller built the 2.01s himself, I'm sure he knows what he put in them. Perhaps he is tired of people copying his work and posted misinformation to throw people off. Can't say I would blame him since he shut everything down. i thought he only build the Candy Apple Red ones himself? and when mo...

Re: Kingsley - Harlot Tube Overdrive [traced]

did you mean 24 volts? 42 volts is way beyond the spec for 2n5458. i was estimating based on the divider in the most second schematic: 330k and 68k fed by 250V. the earlier schematic suggests it's fed by 237V, which would give ~40V at that point. but it's measured at 27V on the earlier schematic, s...

Re: Kingsley - Harlot Tube Overdrive [traced]

I wonder why these types of pedals choose to power the transistor off the high voltage rail instead of the readily available 9V? For headroom when pushed by something powerful? looks to me like the 2N5458 is getting ~42V. if the goal of your pedal is tube overdrive, you don't want your input transi...

I came across Effects Layouts' Silver Fox which says it's based on the Silver Bee: https://i.postimg.cc/TL8fKkSS/image.png I can't find any other reference to a trace of this pedal here or on any of the other forums, so maybe storyboardist could provide some insight\ on where it came from? It's int...

Re: Fulltone - OCD [traced]

Here's a simulation of the V1.4 using 1nF (green) and 4.7nF (blue), with the tone knob at noon (5k). The cap adjusts a lowpass in conjunction with the 10k series resistor. I don't show it here, but turning up the tone control can't get you those frequencies back, instead it gives a bigger peak at ~1...

BJF / Moody Sounds Honey Bee DIY

Pretty surprised to find this official Honey Bee schematic along with a DIY kit: https://www.primofxllc.com/moody-sounds-bjf-kits Might be old news to some, but I wanted to upload the schematic before it disappears. Wasn't sure if I should bump the old BJF Honey Bee thread from 2009, the values all ...

Any chance you can explain the differences in the 4-knob version?
I don't have all my old files but this is a good representation:

Re: Menatone - Red Snapper (schem inside)

guys, the Red Snapper pre dated the Gainster by 5 years. Looking through some old info that seems to be the case. Red Snapper approx 1996, Clarke Gainster 2001. 3) 4-knobs, left for another day. Clearly there are differences between the very early 3-knob's. There appears to be no feedback cap on th...

'A few years back ROHS laws started mandating that power supplies change to the noisy “switching type." ' That's a bunch of BS as far as I am concerned. ROH regulates the MATERIALS that can be used in the manufacture of a product. I find nothing that says ROH regulates the specific DESIGN of a...

i bet mike knew that cap can influence bass response, and either assumed it would add more bass or convinced himself that he heard more bass. that's some real old-school boutique builder behavior lol. probably didn't even simulate it... mike's full quote from that thread: "What's with the "...

Re: Fulltone - OCD [traced]

Looking over all the schematics available, it seems like only a couple things really matter to the "tone" between versions V1.1-V1.7 The drive knob and tone knob values only affect the overall range of those controls. They usually affect the frequency response in a noticeable way. The 25k ...

Re: DOD - FX20 Phasor [schematic]

I got one of these. Strongly recommend soldering a 1uF film cap (or at least 0.1uF) in parallel with the input 0.01uF cap. That seems to suck low bass in bypass and with the effect turned on. Not so noticeable with guitar, but definitely with keys. Also tried swapping the buffer TL022 for a TLE207. ...
