Great work Gauss. Looks like a nice project you've put together there. I noticed on you scheme the first op amp stage only has a gain of 11, is this to avoid op amp clipping? thanks. :D that's the voodoo lab overdrive spec and i suppose that is what they had in mind. it certainly makes it different...

i put together a voodoo lab overdrive layout that appears on gaussmarkov.net. the principle differences with the OCD are well-discussed here and similar changes have been applied by folks here and diystompboxes to many other circuits, so i will leave the details to other posts. i kind of like leavin...

nice vanessa! i just stumbled on your thread. it must be kharma because i am pretty random and sporadic about looking at stuff. and i don't usually scroll down this far. :D that LABEL command in your summary is cool. i didn't know about that one. thanks! here's a tip --- one that people miss frequen...

The VLOD is not an op-amp clipper. In this sense the DOD OD 250 and the OCD clone (that I have seen: markm's schem) are much more similar. In the VLOD, the amplitude of the signal never gets over 1.1V for a 100mV guitar signal. I suppose this keeps the diodes from being super hard clippers. At the g...

So given that the 2.2k resistor is correct, I can understand why better why the tone control is a low pass filter in all settings. The op-amp clipping is quite sharp and puts a lot of high frequency content into the signal. The MOSFET clippers remove some of that. But a lot more is taken out by the ...

2.2K resistor? [traced]
hi, i'm suspicious about the value of the resistor to ground in the feedback of loop of the first op amp in the schems that i have seen for the OCD. 2.2K is like the value you would see in a tubescreamer. and in this setup, with a 500K pot between the output and the inverting input, you are basicall...

perhaps someone would be willing to teach me how to read the supply current characteristics of these chips? i looked at both the MAX1044 and the LTC1044 and i do not see any particular limits. some of the graphs seem to show currents on the order of 40mA. also, the LTC1044 seems to operate its oscil...

interesting. stobiepole and i used R.G.'s +/-9V supply circuit with a 1044 for a recent Gristleizer project. it worked well. stobiepole pointed out to me that there is an advantage to using the chip: you don't get any imbalance between +9V and -9V. they stay equal in magnitude. you may not get that ...
