Re: Need Help Debugging First Fuzz Face Build

I recommend never testing anything with a footswitch. It's just an unnecessary source of problems until the effect is actually being boxed. The footswitch is the last thing I wire in, and only after I know the effect works properly without it. Then it's easy troubleshooting if it doesn't work after ...

I'm using DIYLC for vero, tagboard and p2p layouts. I use EasyEDA for pcbs, and love that it's free, easy to use and web based.

Re: Chase Tone - Secret Preamp [traced]

Found this gutshot of a 2017 "limited edition" with golden finish. Easier to see some of the traces on this PCB. I'm guessing lug 2 is connected to the output through a trace on the bottom side, but the two 110k resistors in this one, are those just between lug 1 and 3 to modify the pot?: ...

Re: Pedal Pawn fuzz

There are a few different types of treble bleed circuits. The Kinman one is really nice (I use a 1nF cap with a 150k resistor), and from what I've read it's the same as in the expensive Fender Tone Saver unit: https://http2.mlstatic.com/set-capacitor-treble-bleed-guitarra-0001uf-vintage-60s-D_NQ_NP_...

Re: what would be the best delay based on pt2399?

I have only made EQD Disaster Transport Jr and Deep Blue Delay. Disaster Transport seemed to have a lot more clarity, and I really like it for guitar. Could probably try using a more hi-fi chip than the original TL072 for it too. For bass I prefer Deep Blue Delay, since it seems deeper and bassy.

Found this comparison on a Japanese site with a couple gutshots. The CE-2w has surface mount construction and using Coolaudio V3207/3102 https://i1484.jp/2017/11/ce-2/report-33154.html

Re: Earthquaker Devices - Speaker Quaker [traced]

I solved it. :) I had 10k resistors that was acutally 1k! :slap: That cut a lot of gain, indeed. I found it because trying a 12k resistor it made a lot of difference. (A little trick: a 100-330pF cap between collector and base cut the harshness.) Southampton Fifth Gear is a pretty cool take on the ...

Re: Barber Linden EQ [traced]

Thanks for the verification! Can you confirm the value of the bass pot, P1 = 220k log in my schematic? This doesn't comply with the 1M log value in the original Ampeg tone circuit. I measured across the pot lugs, and it actually measures 1M. I was wondering about the strange 220k value myself. The ...

Re: Barber Linden EQ [traced]

Got hold of one of the new ones, really loving it! Besides the mod-switches, it seems to be the same as the old version. After testing the switches, I instantly preferred one setting on both switches. I compared the settings with the Ampeg B15 schematic (the tone stack is re-scaled a bit), and the s...

Re: Southampton Pedals - Fifth Gear Overdrive

Finally got around to breadboard one of these, sounds nice on both bass and guitar. Tested it with a strat and tried different heat values. I found 5K a bit subtle, 10K was a lot better. Then a big jump up to 50K just to try the extremes, but it was mostly harsh fuzz territory imo. Then I tried 25K,...

Southampton Pedals - Fifth Gear Overdrive

This one has become very popular among bassists. It's extremely similar to EQD Speaker Cranker. I've read people claiming that this one is a lot more controllable and can go lower gain than the Speaker Cranker. Re: Barber Linden EQ [traced]

The new compact version has two 3-way toggleswitches for input filtering and EQ contour. Here is the manual: http://www.barberelectronics.com/Linden_compact.pdf The input switch is the SPDT on top that seems to be a resistor to ground at least and connected to the bottom of the board. The contour sw...

Re: Analogman KOT Mystery "H" IC

@nimrodthebomber could you post some pictures of the resistors going into the drive pots? I believe it's R16 on the high-gain side, R17 on low-gain side. There was a gutshot in the Facebook group where this resistor has clearly been painted a red band (stock 1k) over a yellow band (100k) on the high...

Re: Analogman - King of Tone [traced]

This gutshot was posted of a high gain side. Look at the resistor going into lug 1 on the drive pot here. According to the new tracing, it's should be a 100k (brown-black-YELLOW), but here it is a 1k (brown-black-RED). Now look closely on the red band... It's clearly painted on there, and you can ev...
