Thanks
Since there are so many Opamp based distortion pedals, it's nice to have a look at the transistor based circuits for a change.
If I have time, I will enter this schematic into SPICE and publish my findings including frequency response, clipping characteristics and wave shapes of each stage

Rockman X100 signal flow Some corrections and clarifications to the article at http://rockman.fr/Reviews/Rockman.htm A. When the Cab Sim is out of the circuit, another EQ is used instead B. The Rockman X100 does not hard pan reverb to right and chorus to left, as wrongly mentioned at Rockman.fr The ...

Re: Tech21 Character Series [schematic]
I am going to start work on a Character series PCB
with either DIP switches
or CD4xxx series switches
so that all possible variants can be selected by the user.

Re: Rockman X100
The JFET used in the Rockman is a selected one based on screening at the factory, but I have never seen any documentation of what the criteria for accepting a particular JFET for use in a Rockman compressor circuit is. mr coffee I solved this puzzle about a year ago. I had access to data from 16 di...

Re: Tom Scholz's Rockman Compressor with two release time constants
https://i.postimg.cc/gjf6KtrD/ULTIMATUM-Diode-resistance.jpg Above is effective resistance of the diode string D4-D7. The input audio signal stops at 1.5 seconds. At that moment, when integration cap is charged high, the diode string D4-D7 acts like a 5Megs resistor The effective resistance of the ...

Re: Tom Scholz's Rockman Compressor with two release time constants
Thanks for your comments. There are indeed two ways to look at this A. The diodes are switches and they change abruptly from high resistance mode to low resistance mode, so they abruptly switch in or out the 1M resistor Or B. The diodes act as voltage controlled resistors and gradually shift from hi...

Rockman Compressor feeding Distortion
Compressor before Distortion vs Piecewise function generator before Distortion In some patents, Tom Scholz extols the virtues of compression before distortion In fact, almost every SRD product that has distortion stage has also a compressor before it The compressor evens out the initial high energy...

Re: Rockman Stereo Chorus and other modules
There are two possible approaches : A) Trace the originals and replicate it That would use ancient BBD with their noise and distortion issues + price and unavailability issues or B) Create a digital circuit using modern parts, that does exactly what the originals did But with lower noise, lower pric...

Tom Scholz's Rockman Compressor with two release time constants
In patent 4627094 of December 2, 1986, Tom Scholz described a guitar compressor. He also highlighted an issue with the release times of the compressor. Tom described the ADSR curve of a guitar signal as follows: "On a guitar, the first sound or pulse that comes out can be a huge peak which is a...

Re: Rockman X100 - Make it a DIY Pedal
Here is a graph of the outputs of a Rockman X100.
Blue is DIST mode
Green in CLN1 mode
For very low levels of inputs, the gain in DIST mode is more.
