Mki Tonebender gating question

Does anyone happen to know what part of the circuit effects the gating? I have been experimenting for weeks and getting a wide range of results, but I can't seem to figure out what components are the ones effecting the amount of gating. I know it can be done because there are mki pedals with a gate ...

Adventures with the JHS Zonk II

Sorry to :beatdeadhorse: , but I love Zonk machines! No one likes the sound of the Zonk II (including myself, until now). To me it sounded dark and had a weird abrupt cutoff about the notes...especially lower power chords and the higher single note runs. I attributed this to just being a crap circui...

Re: VOX (JEN) Tone Bender - circa 1966 - 197(?) [schematic]

I read somewhere (but I can't find the damned bookmark) that, even though this is basically a ff with some tweaked input and output caps, the voltage to shoot for on these are around 7v......not 4.5v. Is this the consensus of everyone?

Re: IC Big Muff on vero - high pitch whine when engaged

If you have more than one of each op-amp, try changing those. If you have any from a different supplier even better. Either way try switching them out and see if anything changes. Sometimes it can be as simple as that. Also you can try twisting your ground and input wire together like so https://i.i...

Re: No clipping after Clark Gainster presence removal?

Yup, you cut ground out of the op-amps gain loop. I would just re solder the resistor back in and leave the presence control along with your new tone control (assuming the tone control works the way you want). Either way, just re-introduce ground to the loop and you'll be back in business!

Re: Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe lfo/bulb Problems

1. what bulb are you using 2. do you have access to oscilloscope to check lfo and bulb driver? What if you replace the bulb with a combination of LED and current limiting resistor - will it work the same? I assume that something is wrong with bulb driver transistor, or bulb is pulling excessive cur...

Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe lfo/bulb Problems

I built the micro vibe from an etched pcb from storybordists layout on perf and pcb layouts found here: http://effectslayouts.blogspot.com/2018/03/voodoo-lab-microvibe.html The only component change was I subbed a 2.2m for the 2.4m and a 3.2k for a 3.3k resistor. It passes sound, but the bulb only p...

Re: MK I gain pot problem

As far as the gain pot issue goes......when I had that problem it was always a transistor issue. Not having them biased right...usually because I was using transistors with the wrong leakage and or hfe. Leakage seems to be the most crucial part of this circuit. If you can post your transistor voltag...

Re: new/fresh gutshots of original interfax harmonic percolator [schematic]

I saw these, the schematics on the internet are totally wrong, as expected. Transistors are still unknown, they appear to be 2 of the same, not 2 different as suggested by others. They do almost look the same. The one on the right seems to have a bigger case though...at least in the second photo.

Re: Sola Sound Tonebender MK I [schematic]

Then add resistance across the base and collector until the leakage reading is in the correct range. Check hfe during the process. Thanks! I have a transistor tester that gives me hfe and leakage readings.....so I assume I can use it while adding resistance across the base and collector to adjust l...

Sola Sound - Tonebender MK I (1965) [schematic]

Ever since I got to play through a genuine MK I Tonebender, I have been chasing that sound. There are lots of pedals that come close, but none sound and feel like an original MK I. Unfortunately I don't have thousands to fork out for an original specimen, so I set out to build one. It has turned out...
