Re: Fuchs The Royal Plush compressor
You want to terminate the unused + input to 1/2 supply voltage and short its output to its - input. Of course there will already BE a virtual "ground" (1/2 supply) available you can just short the + input to; every op-amp circuit has one. This turns the unused amp into a low-impedance buff...

Re: Fuchs The Royal Plush compressor
Do you think maybe one of the opamp channels might be driving too small of a load, causing them to burn out repeatedly?

Re: Fuchs The Royal Plush compressor
I personally wouldn't put black goop over the top of a socketed IC; I'd worry it might degrade the socket contacts. But I'm sure that's just me being picky.

Re: Cornish Bypass buffer [traced]
So basically the first one is for cable driving in bypass mode up to the next pedal or even the furthest amp, and the second one is to make sure that the cable driving is not affected by any effect input? I get your point Skreddy (and it's well explained! :thumbsup ), but I have to try your buffer ...

Explaining the Cornish bypass buffer in pictures: Why the redundant buffer? (these portray the circuit when in bypass)

Re: Cornish Bypass buffer [traced]
Hi, In all respect, I give up. I don't think your technical arguments are valid. A 'filter' after 'just one' decent buffer instead of two cascaded decent buffers can not likely impart more 'tone suck' on the original source signal, unless a bizarre layout or some other unneeded non-technical influe...

Re: Cornish Bypass buffer [traced]
The input Z of the distortion circuit isn't just resistance to ground like the buffer's output stage; it's resistance to ground through an input cap, which would pull down the high end. The buffer at the input before the switch handles the input impedance for the whole circuit, and the buffer in fr...

Re: Cornish Bypass buffer [traced]
The redundant buffers are there because even with the buffered bypass, the input is still technically "sucking" tone unless its impedance is also raised with a buffer. That would indeed make sense if one was to address say 'second order' influences. But if I'm looking at the correct circu...

Re: Dunlop - Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face Mini FFM6
Is supposed to be an Octavia circuit but without the octave-up. I always hated that skronky sound from "Purple Haze," but it is unique at least.

Re: Dunlop - Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face EJF1 [traced]
I use the standard 33k emitter resistor for Q1
Q2's bias is set thusly: an 820R to 9v, which is where I tap the output signal to the volume pot (and I use a .047uf cap to make a 100k pot sound the same as a .01 cap into a 500k pot) and a 1.8k resistor in series with a 10k bias pot.

Re: Wampler SLOstortion [traced]
Gibson/Maestro patented the old Fuzz Tone. But holy shit; Fuller patented his Plimsoul??? On what basis??? What is unique about it? The same soft and hard clipping are both already found in the Nobels ODR-1, and I'm sure Nobels never thought there was anything novel about the idea either.

...so I checked a few transistors in the big bag of BC183's on which I had previously written "<300 hfe". I don't know how that got on there; these things are all in the high 700's! Oh well. Sorry for the false alarm.

Re: Skreddy - P19 [traced]
The resistors were ok - I dun goof'd with the resistor going from the sustain knob into the 2nd gain stage though. Used 82k instead of 8k2. Interesting possibility for a future build - use a very small resistor, maybe 10E, on the first and second gain stages and a 100k "Less" knob to cut ...

Re: Skreddy - P19 [traced]
Try using a 50k pot for the tone control instead of 100k. Less separation between high and low, so the middle ground is fuller. Thanks Marc, I did end up using a 50kB pot in the final build. I think I've screwed up somewhere else because the circuit works great as a very mild overdrive/boost, there...

Re: Wyllie Moonrock [traced]
Not sure, could be, it's got the transformer. But, it looks like only one side of the transformer is in use as an inductor. It's got a lot of diode pairs. Here's my latest layout. A lot of the values are still missing and there's bound to be some errors still. I'm trying to put together a rough sch...

I'll presume it's some sort of Octavia type effect.
