Re: DownBox
I'll second lyk's comment about using a non polarized cap. But since you're a beginner on a breadboard I'll put something out there that doesn't get said much, in case it needs to be heard. Not all breadboards are made the same. On some there is a gap in the middle of the + and - lines on both sides...

Re: Biasing Q1 in a Fuzz Face... who does it and is it worth it?
I've built Tonebender Mk1.5's with a variation of the pinch control from the Wooly Mammoth with a lower resistor value so that I can not only have the gated effect but also can "bias the other direction" and get cleaner like the Vox schematics...

Possibly, the schematic has been out there. I like the one I built about a year ago using Storyboardists layout here...blackboarcult wrote: ↑27 Aug 2023, 18:05 Didnt this one get traced at pedalpcb a while ago, or is it a different Soma?

Re: PAiA - Gator
A bit of a necrobump, but having built one using the layout using a lm13700 that's posted here... https://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2016/10/paia-5730-gator.html?m=0#comment-form I've found that swapping the 10m resistors for 1m's to make the input more instrument than line level vastly improved t...

Re: A.J. Bassett, Electronic Didjeridoo, Practical Electronics, November 1964
Nice. The transformer 1 & 2 are there in the classic passive ring modulator topology that is common among synth modules and has been used in a few guitar pedals too. The option of using a transformer (3) to generate the modulation frequency isn't too pedal friendly. Interestingly, I don't rememb...

Re: Belcat PHS-605 Phaser Questions
:hmmm: It's so tight, I can't move it out without breaking it. All the hardware is board mounted. You would need to take all 5 nuts off to free the board. Both sockets, both potentiometers and the switch. By the lack of solder on the board it looks like there's a fair amount of smd components on th...

Is it me or does this look like basically a 2 stage uni vibe? There's a similarity for sure but that's optical phasing with transistors... Here's the lfo close up. Screenshot_20221031-070826_Dropbox.jpg I don't have much experience with Eastern Block schematics. I am I correct in thinking that a M2...

Re: Passac EC-100 Acoustic Preamp [schematic]
Thanks for catching that Manfred. I had quite the whirl going on deleting connections and repatching them working on getting the proper signal flow outlined. No excuse for the resistor value though :? I've updated the schematic with the fixes and added the jacks. Cheers. passicblock1v2.png Passac-EC...

Here's the schematic tidied up a bit, just lacking the sockets and 3 jumper wires. The impedance jumper is the switch over the 2M2 resistor. passicblock1v1.png Passac-EC-100-block.sch The LED is designed to illuminate for a few seconds when the input jack is inserted and then goes out. Re: Shameless Plug: top-mount jacks, PRE-DRILLED enclosure kit; all hardware included
As somebody that uses a lot of Tayda's predrilled 125b's so he doesn't have to drill as much I don't think it's a stupid idea. Might as well add an led bezel to the kit. I could see a version with a charge pump being desirable to some people, even if that part is SMD and pre-built. The best part is ...

Re: Passac EC-100 Acoustic Preamp [schematic]
I stand corrected about which jack is which and the exact way the switching is. The above comment was made after glancing at Manfred's schematic without looking at my trace at all. My schematic needs tidying as I didn't mark my sockets as in or out nor label the ribbon pins on either board. I left o...

Re: Passac EC-100 Acoustic Preamp [schematic]
Cheers Manfred. Your trace as always is definitely more tidy than mine in form as I was just going for the connections instead of a scale accurate clone. I had set my schematics to the side to come back and combine the boards into a circuit block independent of layout. I'll have some time today to d...

Somewhere amongst my earliest builds was Escobedo's Simple Square Wave Shaper made Simpler with sockets for the diodes. swsh.gif I remember that the next effect I built after finishing it was a noise gate  I hardly ever use the SSWSmS anymore but have always thought of it as a design block that...

Re: Passac EC-100 Acoustic Preamp [schematic]
I've started on the smaller board but I have quite a few questions hopefully you haven't reboxed it yet mediy. For the resistors I have from the transistors downwards; 220k 100k 270k And the one by the diodes 33k. The rest of the board's values/part # are a mystery. Can you possibility get the trans...

Re: Passac EC-100 Acoustic Preamp [schematic]
I just finished checking the pics of the main board against the clone I made with EagleCad. Here's the schematic. PassacEC100V1.0.png Passac-EC-100.sch It's interesting how the signal seems to ride the rail of the op amp. I personally haven’t seen that before. I'll probably trace the smaller board i...

A glimpse of the past when safety wasn't much of a concern in design.
Interesting in a historical perspective but the lack of a isolation transformer is a scary fail.
