Do you remember the old-fashioned way of doing bass compression? It used an LDR across the volume control illuminated by an incandescent lamp across the speaker terminals! It was a simple method back in the 60s....

This compressor is almost that simple! It uses a handful of cheap components (I built one for £9 including hardware!), but works really well. Guitarists who've tried it often ask Is it on? , but miss it when it's off! It's quiet, and has good squeeze without the gain-change...

Based on conversations I've been having lately with Modman, I decided to pick up an upmarket load box to see what that's all about. I had experimented with the concept a bit way back when I worked for Weber and was making attenuators all day. Lots of people (at least in the TGP scene) think this Suhr one is the hot stuff (or was the hot stuff a few years ago :lol:), so I nabbed one. I revisited the design of this pedal and got the frequency response characteristic a lot closer with the extra gain stages and filtering compared to my earlier BAJA AFD OVERDRIVE project, so i have called this the MkII :wink:

Here is a new design that I have been working on over the last few years - a pedal designed to mimic the performance of a typical negative feedback tube amp power stage driving a Celestion quad box or similar.

The pedal has the negative feedback presence and depth (resonance) controls typical of Soldano, Marshall, Fender, Peavey etc.

Tube power amplifiers have a high output impedance compared to solid state class AB and digital...

I have been wanting to do this for decades.... Make a pedal that has the Rockman Distortion sound. The chorus and echo would be other pedals.

I would like to collaborate with those willing to on this forum in creating a circuit that can be used in a pedal format.

The compression and fixed EQ sections seem to have the greatest influence on how 'that' sound is produced. The pedal version would have controls for gain, level and perhaps some EQ tweaking control. A foot switch for Edge / Dist...

I am new here and I would like to share a noise gate circuit that I have been working on.
One or two years ago I was playing around with the MXR noise gate circuit and I did a lot of trial and error modifications to it.
Then I forgot about it, until a few weeks ago I rediscovered this project and finially finished it.
It is using only cheap and standard components (and not many of them) and it could easily be added to overdrive circuits or similar.
