Re: Where to find and recycle old parts [found/sold]
I once got about 6 PNP Ge transistors from an old Radio Shack "room intercom system" from the 70's that are perfect for a Fuzz Face...note to self: dig those things out of the box and use them! Also, I love old 8-tracks from the 70-80's as a cheap source of shielded wire. Some parts for my...

Free Adobe software (old, not warez)
Apparently Adobe turned off the activation servers for their older software and posted updated versions of the software to replace the old version. It's still the same software from 2005 (or 2007?), but it doesn't require activation and they provide the serial numbers. Technically, it's supposed to ...

Re: Plastic project box....?
If you want REALLY cheap, try using spray adhesive (3M makes some good varieties) and regular heavy-duty aluminum foil. Cut it to the approximate shape, spray the inside of the enclosure, press in the foil. Work quickly. Could also try this with fine-mesh screen (like for screen doors - make sure it...

Nice work. Hope you don't mind, but I'm also going to make copies of these for my students to use for labs/projects.

Re: 6L6 Biasing help
I may be completely wrong here, forgive/correct me if I am. The way I understand it is that the bias pot is mis-named and should be called a "balance" pot. It does not necessarily change the bias of both tubes, but just balances the bias to help eliminate cross-over distortion. This makes ...

Re: 5E3 circuit guitar amp
what's really scary is the soldering and construction quality. Old caps, bad solder joints, solder balls, one cap (smaller black one) with one lead not connected, crazy capacitor turned backwards with crossing leads, spaghetti-wiring... Looks like a meltdown waiting to happen.

Re: Want to build single tube amp
You caught me...I was being facetious. Some forums are really fussy about cross-posting and linking. As far as the reverb transformer, it's designed to match-up with 12AX7/12AY7/12AT7. It's got a nice high impedance on the input (11k - 22k, depending on model) with 8 ohm out and is much cheaper to o...

Re: Want to build single tube amp
Take a look at this...it's not bad. My 12AT7 version is a clean to slightly dirty version for using OD/boost pedals. The original version by Rexindigo uses a 12AX7 and sounds pretty decent from his clips.

Re: Strat Tone Control Mod Ideas?
The nice thing about a blend pot is that you can different amounts of signal from two different pickups. With the switches, you get all or nothing. With a blend pot, you could have the bridge pickup doing 80% of the work with 20% of the neck blended in to "fatten" it up a little, or vice-v...

I don't supposed anybody has MP3s of the included floppy record, do they? I lost my sample-tracks record from my hard-copy years ago.

Westone
I haven't seen particulars, but I haven't really searched either... Try looking for the Westone Spectrum guitar controls...as the previous poster mentioned, they had a weird inductor tone system. My Spectrum 3 looks like it has a tone pot with a built-in inductor on the bottom. It does give some var...

Re: Lead Free Solder?
Personally, I dislike using ROHS because it does require higher temp, which leads to more damage to components and boards, and it's harder to visually inspect. The reason I'm posting is to provide some anecdotal observations - I worked as an Engineering Tech. with a small company that specialized in...

Have you considered scrap ethernet cable? Comes in stranded or solid, with 8 conductors (four solid colors and four striped).
