Re: Fulltone - Ultimate Octave

I've modded the Gaussmarkov layout of the FTM for Ultimate Octave specs. I'll upload the info in the next few days, for those interested. I'm not doing anything until I get a chance to breadboard them and see which I prefer. The only differences are 50k pots vs. 100k pots, three caps values changed...

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

For what it's worth, this thing sounds great at the end of the signal chain. My favorite so far is boosting it with a TS808. It responds well to all I've tried it with, though. The Harmonic Energizer running into it is also really colorful. I had a chance to play around the other night. Good stuff.

Re: Systech - Harmonic Energizer [schematic]

Finally built this a few weeks ago using PurplePeopleEater's pcb. It's confirmed. I used a J201 for the FET. It's a cool little circuit for adding color of various types. Very vintagy tones available from this thing. It is noisy if you turn up the gain, but if you keep it down, you're set. I'm a fuz...

Re: Zvex - Machine

For what it's worth, I use my Machine clone with my Tele with Texas Specials and haven't had that issue. I did build the guitar myself so it's not a half-assed wiring job and that might help. I would agree with giving star grounding a shot if you have noise problems. I've heard some single coil guit...

Re: Where does Fulltone buy his reissued NKT transistors?

In doing a bunch of research on the Fulltone '69 previously, I can vouch for the fact that they often had 2SB415 as well as the usual nkt275's. I'm not on my computer with the pics, but if I remember correctly, the only guts I've seen of the early 3 knob version of the pedal (brushed alum box) used ...

Thanks very much for the info, Mictester. I have to etch a few boards up soon and I'll have to put the GM layout on the to-do list. Peter, I am aware that the opamp is very prized in the Rat world and have read few bad things from anyone when using one in that circuit, but that is also being used fo...

Re: RnFR - Assload Booster

Thanks very much, Earthtones. That's a really clear explanation. Now having this explained, I'm surprised the inductor brightening trick isn't used more universally in pedal-modding.

Re: RnFR - Assload Booster

You really ARE going to make me buy some of those cool little Russian transistors. The inductor on the emitter side of Q1 and the impedance control leading to sparkle - how does this work? I was wondering if you could briefly explain some of the Technology of the Sparkle, if you will, when you get a...

Re: Pete Cornish P-2

I think the money being shelled out is because they don't want it to die during a big show. If you have a trailer full of pedals made with cheap switches, jacks, etc., you will still have a long life span in the end, but it's not good to have them dying during shows getting to that end point. If tha...

Re: Zvex - Fuzz Factory [traced]

What's the reason that this circuit needs such gigantic input and output caps to sound full, compared to most other 'normal' stompbox circuits? The electros it has stock are very large and the modded values mentioned earlier are even more so.

Re: Zvex - Machine

Welcome, Jack. In this particular case the output is coming from lug 2 of the "Out" (aka volume) control. So you'll wire it from there just like you were taking it from the board, if that makes sense. Sometimes it helps to have the schematic printed out (or up on the screen) and cross refe...

Next time, use a protoboard and help verify the schematic instead of jumping into an unverified layout. Why again does he have to use a breadboard to verify a schematic that the maker himself gave to us? Maybe it's excess caffeine or something when posting that but you come off as a giant prick. He...

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

Being able to build a weird fuzz pedal is not equal to being able to properly use said pedal. This thing absolutely hates the bridge pickup on my Les Paul and just plain sounds broken with no hint of a second octave - when I switch to the neck pickup, it becomes what you hear in the videos and loves...

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

Sounds like what mine is doing, then....I've got the same sort of fuzz as in the video as well, it's just not doing the ring mod/octave thing at all. The resonance and frequency work, but don't dial into the crazy territory like in the video. I've checked the vero many times and it looks spot-on to ...

Well damn...my voltage readings look pretty close, then.

Q1

1.11

Q2
6.9

~200mv

For some reason I'm getting the exact opposite of the upper-octave thing going on, though. I'll set it aside until I order the right pots, so I can troubleshoot it from there.

Re: Vintage/Rare Component Harvesting/Removal Finds

I can't seem to locate a datasheet for the germs...they're General Electric 4jxd610's...I tried a Google search and alldatasheet wouldn't find anything either. I found one website showing that they're PNP but that's about it. Anyone familiar with these?

Re: Vintage/Rare Component Harvesting/Removal Finds

Haha I did save that top plate and was thinking the same, only for a trem. Is it that easy to damage the old caps? I mean I use common sense with desoldering anything and apply heat for as little time as possible, but aside from the obvious? Most of the salvage I've done on stuff this old has been j...

Thank you very much for that. I'll check mine against those in a bit. I'll be ordering the correct pots for it when I place another order, I just thought it would work with slightly higher values.

Re: Vintage/Rare Component Harvesting/Removal Finds

Reviving a dead thread, but why not keep all of this stuff here? There was a big charity yard sale recently where I got this for $.25, for the knobs: https://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i13/thestevil/Old%20Radio%20Parts/P7190158.jpg And after pulling the guts out to see what else might be hiding in t...
