Re: Shaped Fuzz

I'm a huge fan of weird fuzz. I'll add one of the IC's that I don't have to my next Mouser order. If you get a sec for even the simplest sound clip, that'd be cool to hear.

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

If anyone builds this and could post some Q1 and Q2 voltage readings from a working unit, they would be a hero of mine.

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

So now that I have daylight it's clear that I grabbed a 10 meg resistor instead of a 1 meg. I changed that out and I have fuzz and the knobs work, but I'm not getting the ringing upper octave sort of stuff I hear in the youtube video. It's a pretty sputtery fuzz and on some settings the high frequen...

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

Managed to get it to make noise...but lots of oscillation and not the right kinds of noise...did a lot of checking things over...realized that I had the fucking transistors in backwards because apparently when you get a decent amount of knowledge about how to put these things together, you can skip ...

Re: Mid Fi Electronics - Peace Gun schematic

I think it's safe to assume they're all linear pots except volume, which is probably log. I've started building it with the vero layout and some recycled parts that scream "build a crazy MidFi pedal with me!!!!". I'm going to use a 20K dual gang because it's the only dual gang I have, so I hope all ...

Re: MULTIMETERS! (i guess this is the right forum for it?)

Thanks for the info, Jim. I need to pick one up that has capacitance and a better hfe socket. I bought my first one before I realized I'd be addicted and then bought a cheap one for the hfe tester alone, but cheap hfe sockets are useless and only work after 10 minutes of trying to get it to make con...

Re: MEGA SALVAGE - Old Toshiba Radio

You should be able to once you sort them out by hfe. Then plug them into the breadboard and see what you like the sound of. I pulled some low gain Japanese ones out of an old car radio on Sunday and currently have them in the first two stages of a Buzzaround (with a germ in the last) and so far I li...

Re: MEGA SALVAGE - Old Toshiba Radio

Congrats on the finds. Be sure to check a data sheet for those transistors before you stick them in something...I harvested a bunch from an old radio and I think have some of the same and on most of those, the base isn't in the middle. Aside from the annoying pinout they did have decent gains for st...

Re: half wave rectification and Ge diodes

I breadboarded it and it's a pretty large sounding fuzz. I used a 2907A with a hfe of 160ish and it worked alright but it does leave me wondering what it would sound like with a higher gain PNP, which I don't think I have, not being much for PNP stuff usually. It seemed a bit muddy to me, as it's cu...

Re: half wave rectification and Ge diodes

What are you using for cap values there RnFR? By that I mean which ones are pF vs. nF? They differ a bit from the Bosstone schematics I've seen. I just finished breadboarding a Companion and a Fuzzrite and a normal Bosstone was next on my list...but if you turned a semi-overdrive fuzz to a wall of f...

Re: Skreddypedals - Pink Flesh

I'd also be interested in the jittering. I tried a number of different transistors in a Mayo and could definitely hear a difference between them. Some sounded very similar, but there were others that didn't at all. I don't know much about theory, but would like to.

Re: Skreddy - Mayo

That's about right as far as gain is concerned, but I used some 5088's that had the same gain as other current production silicons and they sounded like junk compared to them. Type of transistor made a larger noticeable difference to me than gain. I've heard matched for the clipping Q2 and Q3, and p...

Re: PAiA - Gator

Does anyone know how well replacement opamps would work in this one? The LM308N is obviously obsolete and rather pricey these days and the NTE replacement for the LM3080N that Mouser lists is also over $4 US per chip. I've only messed with opamp swapping in distortions so I'm not sure what would fly...

Re: BJF - Honey Bee Overdrive degooped [traced]

If I had to guess one overdrive it was based on, per the sound, the Rat would have been the last I would have picked. I have a Rat and consider it to be at the over-the-top side of the overdrive spectrum. If someone could explain, when the info is released, how what is done achieves what it does for...

Re: BJF - Honey Bee Overdrive degooped [traced]

Ultimately all of these pedals are created to make sounds, sounds that people like. Now I see some of the absolutely beautiful builds that many of the members make here, ( I wish I had the chops to do them) and it appears that the BJF stuff may not be in the same league, but people really really re...

Re: D*A*M - Meathead [traced]

I think there is an obvious mistake in the schematic, and the gut shots prove it too... The input coupling cap is the LEFT one on the pics! Varies from 47nF (the 000# version) to 22nF. Definitely some variety there...but I think you mean 470nF to 22nF. I'm not picking at you, just trying to help cl...

Re: Zvex - Fuzz Factory [traced]

All I really know about this thing is that it uses PNP and NPN transistors...is this one negative or positive ground? If it's negative and I can chain it with my others, it may get bumped up on the list of things to build.

Re: 3pdt source in Taiwan

I had 2 blank blue ones die out of my last order of 4 of them, and I think a third is dead as well since the Compulator clone I built worked fine but now doesn't work when switched on and makes weird noises when you wiggle the switch. Without testing it with a meter, we'll still say 2 out of 4 of th...

Re: Skreddy - Mayo

That is badass. I have all three of those pedals as well and have to say that a three-in-a-box setup of those is a really great combo...so much noise from just one box.
