2. 400 bucks is certainly enough to build a couple of KOTs and get all the materials etc. but will that hold value in resale? no. And that's what most normal musicians are concerned about. "can i sell this to buy dope?" :blackeye

Re: Seen on Ebay K-O-T pfffttttt

I was recently considering how I price my builds. Bearing in mind that I don't do it "commercially", and that it's just done to pay for holidays for me and my wife, I calculate it like this: Cost of case: this is a (more or less) fixed price, because I almost always use the same type of b...

Re: Seen on Ebay K-O-T pfffttttt

For that kind of scratch you could buy all the materials (iron, pcb, etchant, laser printer, etc.) and the time it takes to get one you could learn how to do it. Although not everyone wants to do all that. I know it's hard for people like us to understand, but for some people it's worth that scratc...

Re: Seen on Ebay K-O-T pfffttttt

Thanks for the kind words! No, I think I'm not being clear. I think the KOT is overpriced for sure. I'm just saying that it isn't because it's 'just' a modified BB. DAM pedals bring big bucks, and they are 'just' cloned fuzzes. I dont disagree with the argument, just the conclusions it is based on. ...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender MkIII [schematic]

Has no one ever figured out that volume drop some of us have even when shorting the output resistor? I've got one on my bench right now that a friend of mine built and neither of us can figure out why there is a volume drop vs. the bypassed signal. I've seen it mentioned in some build reports on ton...

Re: Seen on Ebay K-O-T pfffttttt

I did a search after looking at those Ebay ads that appear at the top of posts. King Of Tone pedals for $360.00 to $435.00 for what is essentially two modified Marshal Bluesbreakers in one box. What sort of morons buy these? Is there more than one born every minute? I'm not gong to defend excessive...

The leads on the ICs are oxidized. It looks to me less like workmanship issues and more like someone did some damage.

Re: Fulltone - OCD [traced]

I find that the more i turn up the gain, the more compressed it gets. I keep the gain around 1 to 2 o clock, sounds more open that way. yeah thats what i use max, but the sizzle already annoys me when i turn the gain down to 0 :| try tweaking R2 to a higher value, that will reduce the signal going ...

Just noticed this on the FB page...LOL!

Re: Fulltone - OCD [traced]

maybe i should add that i play an epiphone casino with p-90s and they have a lot of output. Guessing that is most of your problem... try tweaking R2 to a higher value, that will reduce the signal going into the opamp and maybe smooth out your issues. Then if you find a value you like you can put it...

Re: Freekish Blues- Alpha Drive

I just bought a alpha drive. Can anyone tell me if I can use a 12v or 18v power supply with out damaging the pedal? Thanks to any one who could answer this. best bet would be to open it up and look at the caps. the electrolytic caps should usually have a voltage rating written on them. (i think thi...

Re: Freekish Blues Betty Boost Guts

I thought somewhere he stated he had developed this as an original circuit, but I don't quite see that description on the website. To me, that's the only law he broke. But I'm a person who doesn't need a law to dictate my character. Yeah, that's my point. Technically, he hasn't broken any laws. Eth...

Re: Paul Cochrane - Timmy [traced]

I was using the bass as an example, both tone controls interact with the gain. For the bass knob, just swap the outer lug wires and it will function as the original Timmy does.

Re: Paul Cochrane - Timmy [traced]

Thanks guys. I know about the treble cut feature, but shouldn't it have full treble when turned all the way clockwise like the bass knob? It works opposite from the bass knob that's why I was thinking something's wrong. So the treble knob is supposed to control the gain as well? That's a pretty wei...

Re: Freekish Blues Betty Boost Guts

Rehousing the circuit and re-branding it could fall under trademark dilution, I think. I don't see how. Joyo's trademark would be unaffected as it is not being used at all. Trademark dilution usually refers to people using a slightly varied version of the same trademark in order to use customer con...

yeah, the car analogy is a weak one but its one we always seem to go to :) by the way, an auto warranty in the US is only ever void if the modifications done can be proven to have caused the warranty issue. One of the few good laws we have here for consumers. Otherwise manufacturers are legally boun...

Re: Freekish Blues Betty Boost Guts

The concept is legal but scratching/removing of the brand-name on the circuit board is where trouble might start, especially in the states. You can buy how ever many cars you want and sell them for profit, but if you start scratching off VIN numbers or replacing the manufacturer logo with your own ...
