You can see that he put glue in place to keep the pots from spinning if they loosen but if he wants to make it rugged why not just have a PCB with board-mounted pots. Accomplishes the same task much more quickly and consistently.

Re: Toneczar Openhaus [gutshots and schematic] [traced]
Nice to meet another editor! I worked primarily in newspapers but my company wiped out 75% of staff in December so I haven't been doing too much editing lately. Unfortunately most tech. writing jobs usually want a masters degree too which I don't have. I spent 10 years working for newspapers, magaz...

Re: Toneczar Openhaus [gutshots and schematic] [traced]
I think Ed is only this way about the Dove and Openhaus because he designed them for very specific sounds and knows that if people from forums want a new distortion pedal but they don't play heavy downtuned music then the Openhaus wont be something they will like and they will end up flipping it, w...

I think most if not all of them have some sort of modification to the original architecture to add to the versatility or functionality. They usually aren't just exact copies of the original.rcubed wrote:Pretty much all of Brad's pedals are clones. (They were last last time I checked).

Re: D*A*M Fleshhead [traced]
The whole thing with touching the transistors is beyond me. The trimmer will take care of the bias if that's going wrong. You'll probably want to shoot for 6-7v on Q3's Collector but most important, let your ears make the final position and then mark down the sweet spot for future reference. Especi...

Re: Rockbox - boiling point [traced]
I don't think that's really necessary. Reference this URL for a good idea of what's going on: http://buildyourownclone.com/808instructions.pdf I think you'll find the layout is VERY similar. Sub in different clipping diodes, put in a switch to select your diode options, and have fun. I had one of t...

Re: Rogue Sound - Savage Henry (DAM related)
Your Q2 is very likely still a BC182L as you're still going to need an ECB device to fit that layout.

Re: Rogue Sound - Savage Henry (DAM related)
Those two lower strips should both be grounded I think. Otherwise that pulldown isn't doing anything and Q1 has no emitter/ground connection.

Anything that would work in a MKII should work here. Ideally you would want a set that will bias up properly with those values.neoflox wrote:Someone want to make a recommendation for an equivalent transistor?

Re: D*A*M Fleshhead [traced]
The one I posted above is good to go. Personally, I would use the wider pitch stripboard for it. It wouldn't be hard to convert a MKII pcb for this too. Is there any place to get that wider pitch stripboard outside of making a huge order at allied? I have been trying to find it for my pedals and th...

Re: Dice Works Muff Diver Finale
Is this just a modified muff? Layout? Of course it is. The "rugged" transistors are just BC327s - they have a high Vce, I suppose, but they're not particularly "rugged". I dont think I would describe a transistor as anything other than rugged. Rugged just mean its not going to h...

Re: AC176 suitable for NPN Germanium circuits?
Tungsgram transistors aren't the most consistent. I bought a lot of 150 Tungsgram AC125 from him and only about 1/3 were usable. Keep that in mind.

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround [schematic]
I figured it out.....bad batch of 4.7uf electro. caps. I changed them a few times, but who knew the entire batch i had in stock were faulty. If you measure components before installing you wouldn't have such problems1 :) Do you really measure every part you use? I measure and test transistors and t...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]
Can't believe they get $200 for that pedal, it has the recent production DSI OC81D in it, which are available cheap. Well when you think about it that enclosure probably costs more than all the parts of many pedals combined so the cost of the three transistors isn't that big of a deal IMO. I really...

Re: Sitori Sonics Brownies and Cream
Wow, the purpose of the forum is to build pedals without compensating the designer? I thought the purpose of the forum was to learn about circuits, but maybe I was wrong all along. I thought that too until I was told otherwise by the regulars. But really, look around. You have maybe 20 people here ...

Poor Comic Sans. I don't think it's that bad for its purpose. I disagree, sir. Comic Sans is a sign of both weakness and frivolity. But, I worked in publishing for 10 years, and we tended to take font choice very seriously. :horsey: I dont know that readability is serious business on peda...

Re: Toneczar Openhaus [gutshots and schematic] [traced]
Its a much larger undertaking than building a tube screamer clone so that will probably limit the number of builds quite a bit. I'll be totally honest here. I've built a ton of pedals, ranging from simple to pretty complicated, and I have ZERO interest in building this one. Too damn many parts. :lo...
