Re: Death by Audio - Echo Master (gut shots)
Using plated thru-hole slots would increase reliability in a big way. It may be me but I fail to see which slot's you're referring to. The whole board shows the job from someone who learned to use the tool but has limited electronics knowledge. slots instead of the oversized holes for the pots

Re: Death by Audio - Echo Master (gut shots)
Using plated thru-hole slots would increase reliability in a big way. in well-featured layout tools, it is a simple dialog window assignment in the pad stack. Great purple solder mask.

Re: PCB Layout Improvement using BMP example
It is not that daunting as it all traces back to simple equations, ohms law, etc. As you can see, 28mil tace is of similar cross-section of very thing wire-wrap wire. It's not any more complicated than that. If you go thru your parts placements and positioning you will find your traces much shorter ...

Re: PCB Layout Improvement using BMP example
The track widths are still at 28mil because I’m still not sure what a sensible width is, regarding your examples, I’d not come across Wirewrap before so it was nice to learn something new, however I can’t answer the question as to which wire gauge I’d prefer, as surely that answer is dependent on a...

Re: Pete Cornish - Mystery Pedal [gooped][x-ray'd]
How much more time and energy (and money) do you think Aion should dump into a single PCB? Do you recognize there definitely an upper limit to what people will spend on a single project, and maybe Kevin is trying to strike a balance between "good enough for rock and roll" design and affor...

Re: Pete Cornish - Mystery Pedal [gooped][x-ray'd]
You don't have anything on the cutting edge, just another take on the original concept, which is perfectly fine. It's not just fine, it's pretty much all we're looking for. Who cares about a perfectly optimized PCB layout in a guitar pedal? It's sat between a couple pieces of wood with copper wound...

Re: PCB Layout Improvement using BMP example
Sorry I did not format this correctly: As it is at the moment, the 9v I/P track runs past all the resisters of the final transistor stage before reaching the filtering. Response: once through the series resistor and filter cap, then you may like to go wider with your V+ even partial poor that you mi...

Re: PCB Layout Improvement using BMP example
By moving the power input closer to the filtering, would this help reduce potential power supply noise? Response: Incrementally yes, in a high gain pedal you would notice differences. Same goes for powering the LED as it can act as an antenna, I might power it after C16 & the series resitor. As ...

Re: simple transformer octave gets overheated
Are you sure that heat is coming from the larger value resistors? To break this down, if you dead shorted 9V across a 1M or 100K you will not get enough heat to notice 90uW for the 100K, 9uW for the 1 meg, However across the 50ohm, you could draw as much as 1.6W. You have a short possibly on the 100...

Re: PCB Layout Improvement using BMP example
I need to look further at details, here's what I see in initially looking at it: It's is organized, and nice attention to clean routing. In and outs are separated from each other and it makes for a nice counterclockwise signal flow. We can do a lot with this layout and I think you will like what it ...

Re: Pete Cornish - Mystery Pedal [gooped][x-ray'd]
"Deservedly look down on?" before commenting further, I'll say this- it is of little benefit to critique for any reason other than to see it improved. Looked down on would be personalizing it for reasons I would find less than honorable. That said, and from further reading your post, I wen...

Re: Pete Cornish - Mystery Pedal [gooped][x-ray'd]
In your poor response, it is clear I hit a nerve. It is valid criticism without regard to nostalgia, or tech of 40 years ago, in which I was fully immersed. since 1975, rather than stay stuck in it, I evolved with it. Deflecting with personal attacks or assumptions is just poor form, even for you......

Re: Pete Cornish - Mystery Pedal [gooped][x-ray'd]
without dyslexic typing... Designing this in too small a foot print and using design choices more appropriate for digital circuits does not help you achieve all that you can ring out of the schematic design intent. You can of course can get the layout to work to some level, but not the best you coul...

Re: Pete Cornish - Mystery Pedal [gooped][x-ray'd]
nothing yet? I don't mean to tease, the layout's just extremely tight and it's been kicking me in the pants the past month or so. I finally was able to hunker down and finish it though. An appetizer... [ Image ] Now shooting for the end of November for this, assuming prototyping goes well. Design t...

Re: Cornish G2 - Guts, Schematic, Layout (from Tracer's Fund [traced]
I find it a disappointment of craft to see what is in this pedal. One could claim craftsmanship for the harnessing, except if designed properly, none would ever be needed. The PCB looks to be old tape and mylar design which may hold nostalgic value but as it is, it's poorly laid out, and poorly adap...
