Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
If you want to find a bottom line for the moment: I have all of them except the last one. They reach increasingly into power scaling, and although there are a few very useful information snippets here and there and I would not want to miss them, those are not elementary. If I were to recommend one o...

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
Hard to judge for me if they are priced high. I believe technical books, notably if they are chock full of drawings, are a lot of work to write. That kind of books I always remember expensive. This is probalby also connected to the expected number of sales. A Harry Potter book for comparison may be ...

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
Paolo, I share your opinion, but no books. Although I think the TUT series is quite hefty priced, this does not justify sharing them. An old saying says: what does not cost anything is not worth anything. This is true to the one that downloads such a pdf and drowns it somewhere on the pc. On the oth...

andrej,
are you going to make a microprocessor controlled scatter winder?
Pun aside folks, YOU may be the ones that make a difference. Insane urge is a good prerequisite. Carry on.

Re: Any books on pickup winding?
While I believe that winding your own pickup is doable, I also believe that the results will be mediocre. Reading what Bill Lawrence has to say on pickups, magnets and materials, I come to the understanding that some people have a "green thumb" for things. Those people were not born with a...

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
I have encountered such "gurus" in all sorts of technical fields. Once a person has built up a certain status they are prone to arrogance and overestimation of their own capabilities, or rather, underestimation of somebody else´s capabilities. I agree, people need support as far as acknowl...

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
The problem is that the best ones are more than the sum of their parts, typically with tolerances and variations that are all over the place. The "magic parts" are never in one place or clearly broadcasting that they are the responsible elements. To come to the rescue of their honour, tho...

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
The tube amp I built (starting from a Twin Reverb) sounds technically ok, but I never got this one sounding so good to my ears that I would discard any mosfet amp I have. I think, with those people who spend their whole days concentrating on nothing but this subject for years and years, so many thin...

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
Man am I naive? Those books sprout like mushrooms.
However, Merlin´s books get quite good reviews too. snofla1900, you know both of them, you think Merlins books are better?

This was true at least at the time I purchased it.aquataur wrote:---and outperforms any of the tube amp books on the market.

Re: Any Kevin O'Conner books on PDF??
I have all of those books except the last one on powerscaling. I have been an electronics engineer for nearly 30 years now, but I have never come across better books on contemporary circuit design and application, even in semiconductors. The books are expensive, but if you get TUT 2 (the book it sta...

Re: Umble with tube power amp type sag (compression)
Asymmetric clipping. (...)Put a pot in the phase inverter circuit to make one side push harder...the upswing or downswing... Mike, thought about that again. That is not what the Russians were talking about. You are talking about mutilating the symmetry in a push-pull circuit, the Russians talked ab...

Re: Umble with tube power amp type sag (compression)
Mike, I have read this on one of the russian j-fet freaks pages. The way I understand, those guys want to sell their devices so they keep a low profile hereabouts. But they have been ranting about how important asymmetric clipping is. For the diode clipper pedals, they slowly rise to the demand. Now...

Re: Umble with tube power amp type sag (compression)
There is so few extra components that it is ridiculous. The gate bleeder resistor that is there is replaced by a bridge of two resistors, the cap is soldered across the one to ground. The pot is mounted to the case, so there is only three more components left which I wired directly with heat shrink ...

Umble with tube power amp type sag (compression)
Hi, fuelled by all the hype about xUmble amps (or might the $ sign like $Umble be more appropriate as a place holder?) I built a R.O.G. Umble just to see what it is all about. As usual, I made several subjectively worthwhile improvements, amongst which the IMHO most noteworthy are the addition of a ...

Pot replacement procedure for a Colorsound Wah/Fuzz/Swell
FYI, I received a yellow Colorsound Wah/Fuzz/Swell, probably dated ca. 70ies pedal to replace the scratchy pot. The pedal had been in repair for that, but the owner re-installed the original pot again because the pedal did not behave right after the installation of the new pot. This has several reas...
