Re: Jax fuzzwah [schematic]

I'll say it again, there IS an FY-2 based version. Maybe some day I'll find the files related to it. I may have photos of one somewhere in one of my hard drives. I've only seen one or two. I'm pretty sure there's nothing like the "Tone Selector" switch on the FY2 version, so it is differe...

Re: Lovepedal Les Lius gut shots...warning, big [traced]

My first guess is a single transistor boost with clipping diodes. The switch changes between different diodes. Everything else is for controlling the relay. SMD Electra-like circuit. That was my guess as well, would be funny if that were indeed the case. Should be able to compare the switching to C...

Re: Jax fuzzwah [schematic]

Yep - no talk of the 8Tr there though. True. But the core of all of these are that "differential-like" octave generator circuit. I think all these plastic cheap fuzzes and fuzz-wahs (Japanese and otherwise) are basically variations on a theme. Yep. I knew that they were all " very si...

Yep - no talk of the 8Tr there though.

The old SF circuit is just a cool sounding fuzz.

I think it will be hard for me to deny this - the evidence is too overwhelming: https://www.freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=71&start=1 analogguru Suspicion confirmed ! :applause: I just KNEW that you had already compared these schematics. I hadn't looked at them "side by side&qu...

Re: Jax fuzzwah [schematic]

Take a look at the Fuzz section of the 8Tr schematic and the Superfuzz schematic ...

Notice any similarities ?

(I suspect that AG already knew this...)

Re: Jax fuzzwah [schematic]

No offense, Cowbell, but I checked out a few Super Fuzz boxes out on You Tube, and they don't sound anything like the pedal I had. Mine didn't have the octave effect on either fuzz setting. I wouldn't necessarily rely on youtube to compare sounds, but it is possible that it is the 8 transistor circ...

Re: Jax fuzzwah [schematic]

The fuzz circuit is a Superfuzz.

You can find schematics for the different versions at http://members.fortunecity.com/uzzfay

The schemo for the one you probably had is at http://members.fortunecity.com/uzzfay/superfuzz1.html

V Nice note decay on the one in the clip too.
The one in the clip is rare in that it sounds great. Most of them sound farty, misbiased, and nasty...and not necessarily in a "good" way.

Re: Colorsound- One Knob Fuzz [schematic]

apart from volume increase, the values i experimented with: at lower (82R) it sounds "grainy" and slightly gated. at medium values like 1k~2k its more straight distortion, higher around 3k and up goes into heavily gated, scattered, angry fuzz Interesting! Thanks, cpm! I guess some experim...

Re: Colorsound- One Knob Fuzz [schematic]

Maybe the cause are my poor english skills, but it really sucks that I have to waste my time for justifications, when IMHO I left no doubt about the matter. amen And as I said, my interpretation of your post left doubt. I'm not gonna sit there and "count holes" to verify a circuit as you ...

Re: Colorsound- One Knob Fuzz [schematic]

I can't help it that your original post leaves the impression that it is an original unit. that can be only your personal impression... Picturing it in the original enclosure, next to the original box leaves it "at best" amnbiguous, and in reality, makes people think it is original. Can y...

Re: Colorsound- One Knob Fuzz [schematic]

As far as me posting the picture, no need whatsoever to "refer to the photo source" as I simply quoted your original post in this thread . I didn't "repost" it from DAM. The "enlargement and altered pic" is debatable, but being that it is directly under the quoted post...

AG built that one. 82Ω would be correct. there's a picture in this thread over at diystompboxes: https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=48885.60 Yeah, I see now that it wasn't an original unit pictures in the original post - it wasn't mentioned till later that it was a replacement p...

Re: Colorsound- One Knob Fuzz [schematic]

The plot thickens. The pedal sounds good with both a "82R" and a "820R" ...either works just fine - just changes the "perceived" output level on the volume knob. I agree that it's a 82R in the Jennings you pictured AG (and certainly a 820R in the original photo) the cl...

If you build it, let me know how it works with your rig.

Like I say, it's a ridiculously simple circuit that pretty much anyone could come up with, but sometimes those can be really good.

Re: Rare 60's FUZZIE ?? [schematic]

Do a search for "Crazy Face" or "Crazy Tone". It's a Japanese made "clone" of the FF that really isn't a "clone". Different circuit - sometimes they sound ok, but typically they suffer from poorly biased transistors and poor build quality. Most that I've seen ...
