Re: Quartz Overdrive... Perhaps the end of tubes?

Is there supposed to be a feedback resistor?

Re: Quartz Overdrive... Perhaps the end of tubes?

Which setting is supposed to sound tube like?

I think the low input Z rolling off the highs is what is making this sound "warm". Your sig says you like bass. Have you played bass through it? I may try it on the breadboard this weekend.

Re: MXR Badass Modified Overdrive [PICS] [SCHEMATIC] [schematic]

Those 2 separate eq stages seem redundant. Couldn't the tone and 100Hz control be combined in the same network like a graphic eq (with a peaking low and shelving high)?

Re: Way Huge - Green Rhino mk2 [traced]

I played this last night at band practice and my band and I could not tell a real difference between this and my Mesa Bottle Rocket! I still haven't decided if I'm keeping it or not but in a band setting it's indistinguishable from a tube overdrive. I think the 100 Hz control helps a lot. I'm shit a...

Re: Way Huge - Green Rhino mk2 [traced]

I think I'm going to return it though. I have practice tomorrow and a gig Thursday so I can give it a good go but in careful listening it has a boxy (I wish I had a better word) midrange that will eventually bother me too much. Sounds like it's just the inherent qualities of the Tubescreamer tone c...

Re: Way Huge - Green Rhino mk2 [traced]

I juts picked up a Green Rhino to try with my bass. I went to the store looking for an MXR Custom Badass Overdrive but they were out. This seemed close enough. The Green Rhino has the curve control which either effects the clipping or the tone (the directions are not clear). The MXR has a mid bump ...

Re: smallsound/bigsound Team Awesome! Fuzz Machine [traced]

yeah that version is OLD! i think the newer one is better, but some folks' opinions differ with mine. the details are pretty simple - split the signal, fuzz one side, mix them together - there are endless variations on the theme. The endless variations is what gets me. Every time I think I've...

Re: Overdrive design

I'm no expert but I doubt the diode select switch will be audible with the second stage clamping it even further. You may also want an antipop resistor on thew output as well.

Re: CAE MC402 [schematic]

We've discussed this pedal before. No one has traced it so we don't know what the drive side is inorder to fix it. I had one of these and it was a huuuuuuuuuuge let down. The distortion side of this thing looks very like a Tubescreamerâ„¢ (big surprise!), but one version I saw had "to-ground&quo...

More low end

.
The low end between these two should be roughly the same. The difference would be that you can get more gain.

It looks pretty cool.

The 470k & 470k voltage divider before the second tube stage looks backwards.

Anyone notice that it used to be called a "discrete" overdrive. I wonder how JHS justified that bit of marketing?

Re: JHS Morning Glory [traced]

As someone who has mixed feelings on JHS and as a bass player I'm surprised how much I want to try this pedal. When I thought about building my own MBB clone I was going to put a transistor boost on the end to fix the phase. Well...there goes another idea I thought I had... I still want to try one o...

It sounds awesome!!!

Your clean signal sounds great as well. What amp are you using?

I just checked these out. The ad speak makes me want to puke but JFet emulations of your own amps is brilliant! I bet they would sound like a 30 volt Umble.

Must try one on bass :horsey:
