Re: Need help fixing butler bluetube pedal
Have replaced two of the three pots in the eq section and still get no affect by the three eq pots. The gain and out out work but that's it, any suggestions on what might be wrong? Thanks I haven't seen the schematic for the Blue, but would imagine it's the same as the Real tube, or similar. And th...

Re: Mad Professor Simble [traced]
There is a pic of Simble's pcb, found from the net. I'd like to see more pics, component side too. It looks like there's a DIP8 config for an op amp sort of in the middle there - looks like pin 4 connects to what is probably ground. I don't see what appear to be any other possibilities for an op am...

Re: Rockett Allan Holdsworth Overdrive
Watch the demo. No one gets that tone just using the pedal, Allan uses only the clean (transparent) boost that the pedal offers, and few videos when you hear the tone are the few people who have figured this out. It doesn't surprise me that he only uses the boost side. Someone probably figured that...

Re: Danelectro Fab Tone Bass Mod. [schematic]
Am I missing anything else? C30, C31, R39, and R40 form the bass side of an active notch filter that comes before the treble and bass circuits, and is similar to the pre-gain thing that adds all the mids. By playing around with those values, you can alter both the frequency and the Q (how narrow th...

Re: Danelectro Fab Tone Bass Mod. [schematic]
On the schem, which cap is the "mid-filter"? Someone mentioned that by pulling C5 you kill the pre-gain mid emphasis. I've found it works better than substituting other stuff, even just for regular guitar. I have plans to switch C4 and C9 to from .33 to 1uF, and C5 from 10n to .47uF... an...

Re: Rockett Allan Holdsworth Overdrive
there are six. Those pairs could be muamps, or they could be clippers. Let's just hope someone can snap a decent shot of the board at some point. I was looking at how those pairs are oriented, and it made me think of parallel FET's. Wasn't there some Toneclone kit for the Cranked AC? I know that us...

Re: Rockett Allan Holdsworth Overdrive
I went back and looked into the Tim Pierce OD a bit, and even found a gut shot of it. The layout looked flipped compared to the Allan Holdsworth OD, so I went and looked into videos of it, and found that the gain/vol and bass/treble are basically flipped left to right, as well. The biggest exterior ...

Re: Rockett Allan Holdsworth Overdrive
You're correct, there are six. Those pairs could be muamps, or they could be clippers. Too bad angle and light on the photo to tell for sure. Well, luckily the resistors are regular carbon film types, so it's super easy to make out their values. For mu-amp-type circuits, I'd expect to see more 1M r...

Re: ACE THIRTY
So do we have a circuit schematic already or not yet? Not yet. Not enough interest here, or just that everyone is into other things. Anyway, I think RoG kind of upped the ante with the just released Britannia. http://www.runoffgroove.com/britannia.html Like the Azabache, it looks like this is anoth...

Re: Lovepedal Dover Drive
It was just released, right? Probably will be a little while before someone takes one apart. If Hermida was really involved in the design, and it's really supposed to borrow from a Tube Driver, I think what's in it might be a little more straightforward than we realize. It really wouldn't surprise m...

Re: MESA Grid Slammer tracing (schematic and vero layout ins [schematic]
Has anyone figured out what diffrence connecting the middle of the two sets of clipping diodes (a la Timmy) has yet? I'm really curious about that choice as it seems pointless to me. Paul explained it here or at diysb. He agrees that it should have no effect, but he liked it better. He said the dif...

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
It would be in interest to have some oscillograph curves in which the clipping signal for different op amps are shown. Yes, especially if there were ones that were somewhat considered to sound 'not bad' when they clip. We may not see a visual pattern, but there still might be something of use. Mayb...

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
Op amp clipping is far more common than you think. What is typically less common are deliberate attempts to shape or harness it. Choices of clipping diodes and how they are configured either oftentimes appears to be arbitrary or chosen by some empirical method. Or, it's the standard germanium at on...

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
only 1 diode in the feedback loop? So its half op-amp clipping then? Yuck. eh, not necessarily. What does an OPA2134 sound like when it clips? A TL072 sounds like garbage when it clips, but an LM741 sounds awesome. I would assume its probably the source of that sharp "fizz" I hear in the ...

Re: runoffgroove.com supreaux deux in a 1590a
Very cool! Charge pump and all! I'm usually not interested enough to build the amp in a box pedals, but the Deux seems like a cool exception. And the 16T is rare enough that it would probably require building a copy. I will usually build the "real amp" instead of a pedal intended to sound ...

Re: JHS SuperBoat [traced]
A pity the final details are often not posted. Because a tiny component change can make all the difference. The Supreaux demos I found are not as cool sounding as the Superbolt. I would like to build one but I wanna be 100% sure it will be the exact Superbolt sound. Well, someone needs to get a Sup...
