Re: THE ENGINEER'S THUMB... At last, a better compresso [documentation]

Guys.. can we keep this thread on track and about The Engineer's Thumb please.
It's becoming a huge mess and has been cleaned up several times.
No personal attacks or banter (or vagina pics).. take them to the Cafe or Member's Corner.
Thanks

Professional rivalry between 2 clever Engineers.

We could do worse.. :)

Thanks to both of you for all the things you share here.

Re: NE5532N more gain than other duals??????

The level of gain is determined by the circuit, not the opamp..
so no, it won't have any more gain in that circuit than any other dual opamp.

So, ears are not suitable to compare sounds (!) great and useful... Ears are not suitable to compare speakers, so we measure them, and draw curves, very useful to prove that two very different sounding speakers have the very same finite resolution and useless curves :applause: Ears are great for pe...

Re: Equations. Actual theory about audio electronics

Electronics theory can get pretty deep and involved.
You need a text/reference book.. it's beyond the scope of a forum discussion (apart from individual points of interest).

The Art of Electronics is an excellent place to start.

Re: Anyone want to reverse-engineer a Tone Monk Seed of Life [traced]

I just think it's hilarious reading the sales pitch and descriptions of these things. Like they opened a portal to a secret universe or something. "... There are several features in the circuit of the SOL that allow you to actually shape your tone in ways you have never done before. The 3-way ...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

Well, you're right, all OT with the same impedance ratios and power handling do sound the same, that obvious, all people who switch from a cheap OT for a better are fooling themselves  BTW, all speaker of the same diameter and power handling (and magnet weight and diameter if you want) are so...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

So your argument is "I''m not deluded because I get consistent results." I'm sorry but that only shows you've been repeatedly deluded. In fact it gets worse (your brain gets less objective) with repetition: the more you look for a difference the more likely it is you'll think you found it...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

I merged the "Skreddy Thinks" topic with the main topic on "The Sound Of Capacitors" because there's a lot of useful info and links in the original topic...
and because most of what's being said has been said before.

Re: Skreddy says: "Caps matter!"

Not really true, because test equipment can only show you what you are seeking -among the things it can measure, and real world equipment is not always able to measure a lot of things. Ears (and brain of course) on the contrary do not have to measure one and only thing at a time ; and more importan...

Re: Skreddy says: "Caps matter!"

Saying you can hear a difference when you know what type of cap is in there is worthless.. the human brain for notorious at fooling us into thinking we hear what we expect to hear (a difference.. an improvement). It's merely opinion as opposed to fact. Likewise, test equipment can show characteristi...

Re: G2D - Cream Tone [traced]

If it's not TS based Greg is there anything else that you'd compare it to? Sorry..but you know I can't read circuits! Grant, it's a well thought out circuit really.. controls the clipping of the lows (ala Klon), and has 2 clipping stages.. one to ground and one in a Feedback Loop. So, I know in the...

Re: Help with which way componets go onto a veroboard

greenblue Some components are polarised, and have to be place in the right orientation. Most are non-polarised, and therefore it doesn't matter which way they go. Usually (hopefully) the direction is noted if it matters on a layout, but the way the component number is marked is irrelevant. The 2 cap...

Re: Brown Paxolin 15" wide space vero for sell

I'm sure I deserve it ;) The thing is I really lost control. Most of the shippings I've done was not recorded by any way, and I've sold couple hundreds of those boards. I've ordered 300 hundreds, 47 pcs left, so go figure. Friday I've ordered more in case if I need to resend more than I have. I fee...
