Re: Guild Foxey Lady
Looks like they were planning on doing a silicon version of the germanium Fuzzrite (or just cloning the silicon Orpheum) but then decided to raise the bias on the first transistor after they had bought all the parts. Hey we got boxes of 10M resistors... just solder one in parallel!

Re: Univox - Superfuzz [schematic]
Is there an "octave off" switch mod worth doing? Sure. You'll need a DPDT switch. One pole should break the connection between the wiper of the expander pot and the electrolytic on the base of the 3rd transistor (the phase splitter). The other pole should break the connection between the ...

R.G.'s suggestion about using the MPSA18 is spot on. I was using a 2N5088, switched it for a MPSA18 and the ticking greatly decreased.

You need transistors with the ECB pinout for that layout. Either that or bend the transistor legs to fit.

Would you guys say these enclosures are as easy to drill as a regular hammond enclosure?

Re: Guild - FW-3 ( Fuzz-Wah ) [schematic]
Here's my stab at it, The 1m is probably a pull down resistor for the fuzz switch. The 27k, 220k, .005uf cap combo is a tone filter. Providing lower impedance for the high end. That signal is always there when the pedal is engaged. When the fuzz is switched on you blend in that signal with the origi...

Yeah
The only pots I've seen with 4 terminals have one attached to the casing for grounding.

Re: Sentry Fuzz-A-Tort (1968)
These Fz-1a style pedals were very popular. The input and output caps (.001uf) must make it sound like an icepick though!

Re: WEM, Watkins, Rush - Pepbox, Rush Pep Box [schematic]
I see a "25" on one and they're both electro caps so unless the "25" is the voltage there's a chance both caps are 25uf. --Brad Sure looks like the Voltage to me... We can't be sure about their value. They're 1µF in the FZ-1A I wonder if the silicon ones are actually based on th...

Re: WEM, Watkins, Rush - Pepbox, Rush Pep Box [schematic]
That looks like a Fz-1 without the input buffer, You got the 470k and the 1k5 on the first transistor. The Fz-1's attack control when turned all the way up is 50K in parallel with 22k in series with 2k2 (17.47K) hence the 16k resistor to ground on the base. The second transistor has different biasin...

Re: Death by Audio Octave Clang [traced]
In the last pics that John posted (the earlier model) you can get a clearer view of the IC. I have a LM741 that looks identical to the chip in the pic. Same logos etc. Also note the thickness of the pins. Pins 2,3,6, and 7 are all way thicker than the others. The LM386's I've seen don't have that. T...

Re: Death by Audio Octave Clang [traced]
The closest thing I've seen to it is this Gus Smalley "Simple Octave Up" circuit http://guitarwork.ru/electronic/firm/Octaver/Simple%20Octave%20Up.jpg The Octave Clang though as far as I could tell has an input cap blend going straight into pin 2 of a LM741 (thanks to John for spotting the...

Re: Ibanez n°83 Fuzz
Its nothing like either of those. The Ibanez Standard (fuzz machine) and Shinei are based on the "Superfuzz" 6 transistor fuzz. The 83 has only three transistors. There's what appears to be a germanium diode but not a back to back pair. Not sure what its role is. Do you know what the funct...

Re: Acoustic 360 Fuzz
I've noticed no one has mentioned that the original Acoustic 360 uses a NPN germanium for "Q2" in the fuzz section. The section resembling the Fuzzrite. It was a 2N1306. You can't always throw in a low gain silicon and expect the same results.

Re: Kent WT-1 (Shin-ei) wah
All the parts look consistent with what they were using in those pedals back then. You'll most likely see the triangular Matsushita logo on the other side of those caps. Trace side looks undisturbed as well. Its probably from the same era as this FY-2 on the Uzzfay site which is in even cleaner shap...
