Another part should be modification: on ebay you can buy really cheap pedals. For example this week I bought a Ken-Multi/monarch Distortion for Eur 8,50 plus shipment. This boxes are not so bad. For example the PSK SDS-2, SDS-3 or SDS-5 (seems to be now the roque SDS-5 can be easily be modified to be a Rat. They put in this unit since years a 470 Ohm instead of the 47 Ohm resistor in the...
Does someone know how getting a deeper flanger tone from this unit?I would like to have a look at the original MXR service manual of this unit and the flanger/doubler rack unit .
Replacing the stock linear pin shaped NJM4558L / JRC4188 to a TL072.
This which suggested and described to me by Bajaman because I found the buffered bypass to be less than satisfactory. I tried this mod today and took a few pics along the way. Even a n00b like me can do this.
1). Locating the NJM4558L / JRC4188:
Look Ma! No SMD!
2). Removing it:
3). Preparing the TL072 (2 rows of 4 pins) to fit 1x8 layout:
Looking up the datasheets, the pins layouts for both ICs are numbered the same...
EdG asked a couple of questions about the O/S and I thought this would be a better place to put this info rather than start a new thread.

Changes to the response of the envelope follower inthe OS *can* be effective in getting what you want. Just be realistic about what you expect, since simple half-wave rectifier circuits are limited in their flexibility.
An oldie, but a goodie. I ended up simply replacing R9 with a 10k trimpot so that I could adjust the volume to suit. It's really a good option. I like it set to around 6k. Some people prefer using a 4.7k resistor instead for a more dramatic increase in volume.
Other have posted elsewhere that one needs to mod R19 or R28 to fix the volume drop problem, but replacing R9 did it for me.
Okay, here's one: I replaced the crummy 2.2uF Tantalum coupling cap on the input of my Dunlop Reissue Fuzz Face with a high-quality 1uF Polyester film cap. It made a noticeable difference and I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a Dunlop FF. There is a much richer harmonic content now and the overall feel is greatly improved.
I think it's a good idea to replace Tantalum caps whenever I see them used for coupling - they're not kind to audio signals. I also like to replace polarized...
