For a long time I've felt guilty that my pedal board didn't include a compressor. Finally, after about a year of breadboarding, I have produced a circuit that can take on a Dynacomp and win , boasting:

Up to five times more headroom than a Dynacomp
Less noise than a Dynacomp
Same available sustain as a Dynacomp
Fewer parts than a Dynacomp
Cheaper than a Dynacomp
Feedforward side chain
Possibility for all five controls
Fits in 1590B

Here is a bare bones mic preamp project I designed based on the application notes published by THAT Corp for their THAT 1512 mic preamp chip. Hello,
I have built a fuzzface clone, with some variation of my licking.
The pedal sounds good for what i want but it behaves not as i expected.
I just want to understand.
The circuit is exactly the same, i have just added a pre gain 100k pot, right before the input 2.2uf capacitor and a 10k trim pot on the second transitor collector, this is very common.
Transistors are bc108a for q1 and bc109c for q2, i have two 3pin sockets so i can easily swap them and try different combinations with other...

I've been on a quest to make a distortion pedal that suits the instruments I have and my playing style and so far I like this one the most. I'd been playing with non-inverting soft clip type of circuits (e.g. Tube Screamer) and didn't hate them, but when I tried stacking a boost in front I got an unexpected result - instead of more saturation I got more clean blended in with the signal. That might work for some people but it's not what I was going for.

Nothing fancy here just an antilog amplifier. Inspiration came from here and of course the classic Tube Sound Fuzz from Electronic Projects for Musicians. I think the oct control needs a better name. I want to call it splat because that's what it sounds like to me.

I'm working on a quad pickup, which involves 4 single pole pickups for each string. Is there a way to improve the design by adding another magnet, side by side? I0,000 winds is almost at the limitation due to the size and material (3D print). I do have a working prototype using one magnet per string, with the added bonus of a buffer with a gain trimpot wired after. But I'm curious if adopting something from a humbucker design would help in anyway.

Here it is at long last - the Peavey EVH 5150 preamp section in a nice friendly 9v overdrive pedal format.
You can build it with or without the tone stack and recovery stage or make it switchable - the choice is all yours :wink:
This circuit is my attempt to mimic the frequency and phase response characteristics of the original Peavey EVH 5150 head preamp section.
I also paid close attention to the clipping behaviour which occurs asymmetrically in the 5th gain stage first and then in the 4th...

This is NOT a beginner's project.
This was traced from a recent B K Butler pedal and has the bias pot modification which alters the voltage on the cathodes of the 12AX7 tube.
You will need a suitable 12vAC power pack for this pedal - the original has a small toroidal mains transformer fitted internally near the front of the case.

I used 1N4148's and a 2N5457 instead of 1N914's and a J201. For some reason, using a 2N5457 seemed to let more sound through than a J201.

Hello. I wanted to create a preamp on field-effect transistors so that I could connect various overdrives and fuzzes to it.
It turned out something like this:

To get 30V I used a module on XL6009. For now, this is an intermediate version, because I plan to try it with a bass guitar and, perhaps, some other moments.

Hi all,

My first try at tracing a circuit and third layout.
The circuit has an input + buffered output and an xlr ofc.
Versatile as it can be powered 9-16VDC or by phantom power.

The layout is verified , as I built it a few hours ago and works perfectly !

I found this pedal sitting around in my drawer, something I got a while back from a friend who told me it was some kind of overdrive.

The pedal came with one knob missing and no labels at all. I tried to figure out what the knobs do and wrote down some labels I applied, but honestly, I’m not sure if I got everything right since I’m kind of a noob with this stuff...

This is the most recent refinement of a generic boost/buffer circuit I've been using for a while. It's a soft clipping boost with a subtle crunch, like a perfectly toasted bagel. Bypass scheme inspired by Valve Wizard , diodes-to-ground soft clipping inspired by Thunderbird (and discussed in this thread ).

I used a 10k linear pot but a different taper (log or audio I suppose) would let you omit R6.
My schematic says opamp_quad but feel free to ignore that and use a TL071 or similar.

Here is the second installment of my bass amplifier series - the Ampeg SVT in 9v pedal friendly format.
Plug this pedal into any high wattage power amplifier and experience the Super Valve Technology sound without tubes :wink:

Hi to all.
Fuzzface has undergone so many modifications, so only mine is missing :D
I set out to redo the fuzzface in a way that would be easy to repeat and not sound as sharp as the silicon transistors. Therefore, I decided to add zener diodes between the base and the collector and it softened the sound. Also, the capacitor at the input is also of reduced capacity so that there is no excess of low frequencies.

After showing you a couple of not-clones, here's a more original circuit I'm proud of. It's a parametric mid frequency eq with also bass and treble controls.
I think equalizers are very very powerful effects, altough they shouldn't be overestimated when post production is an option. Ive just recently got a Crybaby gc95 wah. Ive noticed that, when the wah is almost fully pressed toe down (trebly end) , just before clicking the footswitch and turning effect OFF - theres a space there that causes silence - no bypass tone or wah tone. I can sometimes hear it when rocking the pedal and getting too close to the trebly end or when turning off the pedal - theres a little brief cutting of the sound. okay.. I was struggling to figure out how to make this happen, but Seiche helped out with his suggestion to flip the image (for fitting the SMD) and Fender3D helped out with his pulse LED mod (not included in the layout below, but this link explains it) .. there's a spot on the PCB for that trigger ...so thanks to you both.

Alright, I got it finally figured out... an SHO-style MOSFET boost with NO CRACKLE!!!
I came up with a new gain control for it that allows for the same range of gain adjustment without having to adjust the Source. Since the Source stays fixed, there is no crackling.
While thinking about how to solve this problem, I realized I could treat the basic gain stage as an inverting opamp. So, I set a fixed max gain and tried a variable resistance in series with the input and voila , works perfectly....

I'm designing on a Small Stone clone and I'm planning on using the LFO from a Tonepad Ropez. But, I am also using a vintage V1 Small Stone housing, so I want to reuse the C1M pot. If I'm reading the schematic correctly, all I need to do to keep the same rate is double the values of the two resistors coming from IC4b pin 9? The 4k7 and the 10k to ?

Do you know what I like to do in my free time when I'm not making new circuits? Abusing for audio parts not meant for the purpose! Long story short, I ended up testing and measuring a good part of all odd diodes I have had accumulated over the decades of tinkering.
Some are modern, widely available, some are more rare and not produced anymore, germanium, silicon, including Schottky, silicon carbide, Zener, LEDs, IR, etc.
Here are the graphs, showing the forward voltage drop for a given current (I-V curve) for different types of diodes. Hope this is helpful to anyone. All were measured using a Peak Atlas DCA75 Pro.
