For a long time I've felt guilty that my pedal board didn't include a compressor. Finally, after about a year of breadboarding, I have produced a circuit that can take on a Dynacomp and win , boasting:
Up to five times more headroom than a Dynacomp
Less noise than a Dynacomp
Same available sustain as a Dynacomp
Fewer parts than a Dynacomp
Cheaper than a Dynacomp
Feedforward side chain
Possibility for all five controls
Fits in 1590B

Hello, this is a circuit based on the Benson Preamp, called the Bonson praemp, because I'm refusing to call it a preamplifier. This is part of a streak of me going through circuits I see and even like, to conform them more to my standards while trying to keep the same timbre and character. A simple boost/preamp circuit I put together recently. The JFET starts to clip in a pleasingly smooth manner if you really dig in so the gain control allows you to set how hard you need to play to make this happen. The simple active two band EQ gives a nice range of tones for not many parts.

Here's my version of Bajaman's EVH overdrive , I call it the mini EVH. A friend brought his interesting circuit, which is directly inspired by the 5150 preamp, to my attention and I wanted to give it my own twist.
To Bajaman: know that in no way I'm saying that my version is better or there's anything wrong with its inspiration. They both sound great, I think of it as two different means to achieve more or less the same goal. I hope you're happy one of your circuits is getting “the treatment”...

this is my first post on this forum.
i wanted to share with you this layout that I had in the drawer for a long time and completed a few days ago. the scheme that I followed is the one taken from madbean current lover (except some changes) . it can mount both the mn3007 and the mn3207 by positioning the bridges under the pcb. I did not have time to make it happen ... but I will do it soon.

i built a Diaz Texas Ranger Treble Booster. i used the exact part values and i got the proper bias voltage but it sounded to me more like a mid boost with a volume boost rather than a treble boost. and it barely distorts by itself...why is that and is it normal?

Don't Tell Ray has a front end that can get gritty and dirty, a sinusoidal LFO, modulation speeds that match the hardware, and a tone control that allows the delays to stay nice and clean or dark and mellow. just to let you know, if like me you use eagle for pcb design and download a lot of footprints from snapeda. I noticed , already 2 errors:
1 the 2N5172 transistor footprint is wrong: EBC instead of ECB (the probably copied a generic 2NXXXX footprint)
2 I tried a 3 colors LED footprint, but when I open it on eagle the pads overlap...
So double check everything before making a PCB...

I built mine on a piece of stripboard - I may design a pcb for this in the new year. I used a OPA4134 quad opamp but a TL074 or two TL072 opamps should work fine - the choice is yours :wink:

The master volume can be omitted if desired - simply replace it with a 22k resistor and connect the treble control...

Here is an updated version of my Baja SLO overdrive pedal - although the original design works very well, i wanted to get a bit closer to the individual gain stage's frequency and phase response characteristics and the only way I could see to do this, was to use four gain stages (not two as in the original BAJA SLO) matched to the actual four gain stage amplifier schematic :wink:

-reducing the number of components as much as possible. I think there's beauty and elegance in simple things, and if I can get away with it or have a good reason to, I like to use less components

I wondered if I could swap the LED/LDR (or opto) for a FET, mosFET or 4049 gate (inspired by the PUP phaser series).

Recently I posted my take on bazz-fussifying the Escobedo Push-Me-Pull-You . I've been so pleased with this little octave fuzz I thought it was worth playing with even more.
The PMPY is divided into two sections: A simple gain stage, followed by the push-pull circuit that cancels out the fundamental to give the octave. So, I got thinking, what happens if we add a second stage of fundamental cancellation? Well, it sounds pretty interesting, that's what.
