Original Tracer Layouts A collection of original layouts for vintage guitar effects. If you want to build real replica's of vintage pedals, this is the forum you want to look at.
This page tries to keep the available projects indexed.
If you want to share files to build a effect that's not yet (widely) available, it would be a pleasure for us to host it here.
The projects should be verified , though, and at least contain a schematic , some layout file (transfer, vero, perf) and a component layout file .
Incomplete or unverified projects will be moved to the Projects in Progress folder: if you fall upon such a project, please report the...
I finally got around to designing my DIY version of the Suhr Reactive Load. I was able to simplify the circuit with off-the-shelf parts and retain nearly identical frequency characteristics. I haven't formally measured the AC impedance yet, but spice said it should be nearly the same.
AmmoCanLoad01.JPG
Sine wave sweep of the circuit produced a frequency response almost identical to the Suhr, with the major peaks and dips at the same frequencies. One thing I noted was my design had a steeper...
Добридень or hello everyone!
I decided to make an overdrive on 2n7000, because apart from Zvex SHO, I no longer met the use of these transistors in guitar circuits. The circuit is built on 3 transistors, a green LED is used for bias.
At first, I designed the circuit in LTSpice, but then I adjusted the sound by ear.
I don't play the guitar well, but you can get some ideas about the sound from the video :D I also speak Ukrainian in the video, so maybe not everyone will understand :D
The initial...

Hello, this is my first time posting and I'm not sure if this is the right place to do it. I tried to register with DIYstompboxes but the registration confirmation email never got through despite many attempts.
I am an amateur circuit enthusiast. I designed the attached harmonic tremolo circuit from scratch. What makes it different from other harmonic trems I have seen is that rather than always having the high and low pass filter gains oscillating 180 degrees out of phase from each other,...
I try to post here only the circuits I'm most proud of usually, the ones with lengthy explanations, lots of thought put into them and everything else. This leaves me with a host of other circuits, either because they don't depart that much from the original, or because they're too simple or just neat ideas, that keep piling up, known only to my friends on discord at most. I've decided to collect them in one thread so that I can share them without absolutely spamming this forum. Maybe there will...
I've been inspired to create more stuff in the vein of EHX, this is my take on the LPB-1 circuit. It has a bit of bass roll-off to be less muddy with humbuckers but still be beefy enough for a tele or strat. It's an amp driver first and foremost with just slight coloration. I added an extra switch to add some compression with some current feedback, and a gain control to give some extra boost/dirt. I chose BC107B as they are still readily available, but you can also use 2n5133 for more EHX mojo,...
Last fall I bought a Boss MS-3, which I quite like. I rarely use, but like to have, several effects, so I thought it was perfect. Having three switchable loops was cool, too. Until I looked at all my overdrives, that is. I decided I would like to have more, so I started digging in to how to do it. I settled on using an Arduino nano-based solution that would allow me to connect the Boss MS-3 MIDI out to my switcher so that I can switch loops via patch changes or enable/disable them locally via...
Hi there!
I am new here and I would like to share a noise gate circuit that I have been working on.
One or two years ago I was playing around with the MXR noise gate circuit and I did a lot of trial and error modifications to it.
Then I forgot about it, until a few weeks ago I rediscovered this project and finially finished it.
It is using only cheap and standard components (and not many of them) and it could easily be added to overdrive circuits or similar.
Hello Everyone,
I have been lurking here many years, actually thought I had registered, but anyhow, here I am.
I'm building this version of the ROG Supreaux Deux. I see there is a Hi-Lo switch there, what is this for?, saturation or EQ?
thanks!
King in Yellow - distortion based on Exar Super Fuzz sf-2 schematic by @VitaliiBobrov -> SF-2 tracing
Original pedal was created by Polish company Exar Electronix (Janusz Raczyk and Leszek Gruszka)
It was my favourite pedal in the past for both guitar and bass and it was even better after some mods - like germaniums as clipping diodes, changing opamp..
and what i promised - here is whole project with gerber files: King In Yellow Project on GitHub

Hello everyone. The Blues Driver always pops up among the most popular overdrive pedals, no doubt because many people like how it sounds, but also because it's easy to find and relatively affordable, being from one the biggest pedal company in the world. It's not as popular in the DIY world, aside from mods, probably because it's not the smallest circuit and uses many transistors in a discrete op-amp configuration. Also since you can get it anywhere for cheap, I guess most people just...
i built one and sounds pretty good but there is not enough gain.... i measured the resistance across the gain pot and it shows around 45K (some parallel resistance?), after that i disconnected the gain pot entirely and measured the resistance between IC pin1 and pin2 with the same reading....what could be wrong here.....
Thanks in advance
Hello, this is a circuit based on the Benson Preamp, called the Bonson praemp, because I'm refusing to call it a preamplifier. This is part of a streak of me going through circuits I see and even like, to conform them more to my standards while trying to keep the same timbre and character. A more thorough explanation is give at the beginning of the Clown thread .
Up for some circuit analysis? The Bonchild (name changes every time, it's a rule) consists of the same building block...
A simple boost/preamp circuit I put together recently. The JFET starts to clip in a pleasingly smooth manner if you really dig in so the gain control allows you to set how hard you need to play to make this happen. The simple active two band EQ gives a nice range of tones for not many parts.
Good morning or evening friends depending on how the case may be.
I have not been able to play for a while but I was digging up some of my old stuff while I was going through chemotherapy.
I've forgotten about this wonderful little practice amp that I built on a piece of purfboard.
I have a problem with my hands so please cut me some slack on the drawing.
It was the easiest way for me to do it and also hopefully it shows a little bit easier for people who are newer.
Before I get into the...
Here is the second installment of my bass amplifier series - the Ampeg SVT in 9v pedal friendly format.
Plug this pedal into any high wattage power amplifier and experience the Super Valve Technology sound without tubes
This design is based on the original Ampeg SVT but with the 5 frequency bands mid boost / cut rotary switch used in the later SLM MkII model.
I left the bass cut option in the ultra bass switch control out as well just as they did in the MkII  However I modeled the...
I’ve always liked phasers, in fact one of my first pedals I’ve ever built was a Phase 45 clone. Not only I liked how it sounded, another main reason for choosing it (other than the complexity) was that I only needed two matched JFETs instead of, for example, four for a four-stage phaser.
I’ve been sitting there, content with my box, for some years, until recently I’ve heard of the Project 447 phaser on an old ETI magazine. It wasn’t perfect by most accounts (the long string of 741 op-amps in...
It's been a year and a half since I made the Dudson Narrowcast , a reworked version of the popular Hudson Broadcast. It was fun and sounded nice, but it wasn't perfect, and I left it sitting there. The issue I couldn't gulp down was that i had to omit the feedback lowpass capacitor because of oscillation issues. That and more has been fixed in this V2. This update is also an intriguing perspective in how much I learned since then. There's always more, but at least I feel like I understand the...
Here's my version of Bajaman's EVH overdrive , I call it the mini EVH. A friend brought his interesting circuit, which is directly inspired by the 5150 preamp, to my attention and I wanted to give it my own twist.
To Bajaman: know that in no way I'm saying that my version is better or there's anything wrong with its inspiration. They both sound great, I think of it as two different means to achieve more or less the same goal. I hope you're happy one of your circuits is getting “the treatment”...
hey guys,
any help would be appreciated...
i built a Diaz Texas Ranger Treble Booster. i used the exact part values and i got the proper bias voltage but it sounded to me more like a mid boost with a volume boost rather than a treble boost. and it barely distorts by itself...why is that and is it normal?
MOSFETs, the incredible devices at the core of modern devices, computers, power supplies and… distortion pedals? For some reason, there’s this constant fascination with them: regardless of them being used as diodes, amplifiers, inside op-amps or inverters or even in output stages, the presence of MOSFETs somewhere confers the circuit a powerful charm and the inevitable association with the seemingly unrivaled sound of vacuum tubes.
That said, very few circuits have attempted to use active...
Hi all, this project was one that I wanted to do for a while. It's been pretty fun digging into how oil can delays work and sound. Don't Tell Ray has a front end that can get gritty and dirty, a sinusoidal LFO, modulation speeds that match the hardware, and a tone control that allows the delays to stay nice and clean or dark and mellow. I have a full rundown of how the circuit works on my page about it here: Here is the demo:
Hi Folks
Merry Christmas to all :thumbsup
Here is a little something that i have been working on for some time - it is very low noise, extremely easy to customise and it does not use an inductor.
I built mine on a piece of stripboard - I may design a pcb for this in the new year. I used a OPA4134 quad opamp but a TL074 or two TL072 opamps should work fine - the choice is yours
I have suggested components that can be altered to zoom in on your favourite wah response. (I am currently...
Here is my version of the Hiwatt DR103 normal channel preamp and amplifier output stage - I have not built it as yet (waiting on some enclosures) but it should work ok
cheers
