Based on conversations I've been having lately with Modman, I decided to pick up an upmarket load box to see what that's all about. I had experimented with the concept a bit way back when I worked for Weber and was making attenuators all day. Lots of people (at least in the TGP scene) think this Suhr one is the hot stuff (or was the hot stuff a few years ago :lol:), so I nabbed one. This is the new standard in quality bass amplification. The thunderfunk 750-A is based off of the origional AMP BH420 , Gibson GB440 amplifiers from the 80's and 90's. In fact, if you look at the amplifier board, it is IDENTICAL to Gibsons' Gb440, and later EDEN bass amplifiers. Since they use the same Sanken 2SC3264 and 2SA1295 Output transistors. Earlier models used the 2SC3858 and its counterpart.

I've been messing about with a 5 watt el84 based power amp, but with only an output transformer.

I've seen all sorts on youtube were people have made them with el34 and 6L6's, all using the same power supply, which can be seen on the far left, below

I've tried to hook mine up as per schematic (below) but no go.

I get sound for about 10 seconds if I use an RC network, but the voltage drops and the cathode resistor gets hot (150R).

I'm glad to post here a big piece of my work... I've made a new main PCB for my Laney LC15R (the stock one had issues because of my bad soldering abilities at the time I decided to change the plastic power tube sockets who had burnt to a toffee-like color for ceramic ones)...

I have torn the amp to pieces and I have scanned the PCB. Then, on this full exact scale, using Inkscape, I drawn the new PCB, creating new places for through hole components instead of SMDs...
