The Vox AC30CC series has small pcb mounted toggle switches on the front panels.
These toggle switches have a cap on top that is apparently glued on with some kind of threadlocker (such as blue loctite?).
I need to remove the pcb for repair and would like to do so without damaging the front panel.
According to a youtube video of Psionic Audio (Lyle Caldwell) the threadlocker can be resolved by using acetone.
I have tried a few times getting acetone in using a q-tip, but no luck so far....
Based on conversations I've been having lately with Modman, I decided to pick up an upmarket load box to see what that's all about. I had experimented with the concept a bit way back when I worked for Weber and was making attenuators all day. Lots of people (at least in the TGP scene) think this Suhr one is the hot stuff (or was the hot stuff a few years ago ), so I nabbed one. Inside isn't a surprise: resistors, caps and a couple inductors. Usual things for a reactive load. Anyone...
Hey Everyone,
Been a while since I last contributed a new thread to the forum, anyway, thought I would start a thread about a Tube amplifier I built a few months ago, okay, so what is it? I hear you ask, it's an OTL (Output Transformerless) Tube amplifier I built using three Svetlana 6N1P medium mu twin triode tubes I bought online from Evatco, I built the amp so that I could connect my pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones to my 43 inch Blaupunkt smart TV, the TV does not have a built-in...
I've just recently been given a Peavey Backstage Plus 35W Solid State guitar amp for nothing, and I'm currently working on it to get it back to a useable state, so, what's wrong with it?
Well, the original speaker is a no-worker but the rest of the amp seems to work fine, I verified this by plugging my pair of headphones into the headphone socket, I get normal sound through my headphones but no sound through the speaker.... :thumbsup
So i tried a vox AC15C1 yesterday and ... i liked the normal channed and LOVED the top boost channel....
I'm wondering if i could combine that, and my interest in learning to build tube amps (building the madamp J5 kit at the moment, no other experience in amps, made 30 or so pedals).
In fact, i thought about it because i heard that vox amps are basically super simple, but the tremolo section makes it complicated... and i'm not interested in the tremolo so it soudns like a potentially...
I've had some of these in a drawer for about a year and not really thought much of it.
Until I realised I could build a 100W (aside) stereo HiFi with full range 4Ohm Loads and putting a cab sim etc through it.
Problem is, it sounds very lacklustre in its overall characteristics no matter the tone shaping... But they're cheap as chips.
Has anyone used these with good results or any documentation around?
Here are the real Fender amp schematics for EVH5150 amps and footswitch in case there any use to anyone.
They can be found on the evh/fender website, but for easy download and reference I put them here.
100w and 50w versions.
Hello. I've been lurking here for quite a while but now have I have a proper question.
I own a Super Reverb. I'm interested in trying out the type of setup that Phatt is an advocate of which is using a tube amp into a 30-ish ohm load resistor and then into a power amp, then speakers.
The LOAD R needs to be about 3 to 4 times the speaker Impeadance otherwise it's going to be very lifeless. 8 Ohm Loads on 8 Ohm tap will just turn your favorite tube amp into a limiter (a valve version of a...
Small convenient practice tool that clips onto a belt. Plug an instrument or pedal board into one end and headphones into the other end. Powered by a 9v battery fit into a 1590A size enclosure.
Hey there! I bought this Peavey Express 112 to leave it at my music school as a students amplifier, it cost me 35eu, so nice deal there, the clean seems to sound mostly good. I cleaned all the pots and reverb connectors and now reverb sounds good, also the seller told me the amplifier wouldn't switch to drive channel, and yes it doesn't, with the tester the switch seems fine. I found that there is a resistor burnt, R101 is completely fried, so i removed it but I don't have a replacement yet,...
This is the new standard in quality bass amplification. The thunderfunk 750-A is based off of the origional AMP BH420 , Gibson GB440 amplifiers from the 80's and 90's. In fact, if you look at the amplifier board, it is IDENTICAL to Gibsons' Gb440, and later EDEN bass amplifiers. Since they use the same Sanken 2SC3264 and 2SA1295 Output transistors. Earlier models used the 2SC3858 and its counterpart.
The pictures in this first batch are dumbed down a little much. I can never tell...
So I am currently listing my Orange Rockerverb 100 MKII + ppc212 for 1650€ and I have been recently offered a trade with an Hiwatt dr103 reissue from 2009 + fane 4x12 cab. I would have to add 700€ on top
What you think about it? Would you go for it or pass? I am bit puzzled
The rockerverb clean channel to me is meh, right now I am not using the dirt channel at all and I am bypassing the preamp by plugging a fender valve preamp in the return
Can anybody help me out
What is this brown thing covering the resistors? Could it be on purpose when assembling the amp or are the resistors starting to fail?
I've mesured them from the bottom of the board and they are ok, on the top of the board i don't get any readings.
I'm looking at these because my bogner alchemist is changing channels on it's own.
I've looked at a schematic and noticed that these resistors are in the path that gives 3.3v, witch is the voltage for the...
I've been itching to design and make a new circuit board. This one is the combined take on the infamous ruby amp with switchable bassman / hiwatt controls. There's also a headphone out, but the wiring isn't depicted as it's all off-board.
I'm not really into buying more stuff, but couldn't let this one go. It's the 1960-4 Carad R53PA, a tube tape recorder using EF86, ECC81 (x2), EL84 and an EM84 indicator tube. It has built in speakers but simple standard jacks for input and external speakers. I haven't hacked into it yet, the video below is a quick tour around the thing. Would look great just sitting on a speaker cabinet, with the red pilot light and the green indicator blinking away...
I've been messing about with a 5 watt el84 based power amp, but with only an output transformer.
I've seen all sorts on youtube were people have made them with el34 and 6L6's, all using the same power supply, which can be seen on the far left, below
I've tried to hook mine up as per schematic (below) but no go.
I get sound for about 10 seconds if I use an RC network, but the voltage drops and the cathode resistor gets hot (150R).
I'm glad to post here a big piece of my work... I've made a new main PCB for my Laney LC15R (the stock one had issues because of my bad soldering abilities at the time I decided to change the plastic power tube sockets who had burnt to a toffee-like color for ceramic ones)...
I have torn the amp to pieces and I have scanned the PCB. Then, on this full exact scale, using Inkscape, I drawn the new PCB, creating new places for through hole components instead of SMDs...
Hi folks
Every now and then, one has an eureka moment that one feels like sharing, but sometimes the fear of being severely flamed forces one to keep it to oneself.
After servicing tube guitar amplifiers for close on 40 years, I have decided to share a very simple component change that I discovered a few years back, because in my humble opinion, it makes a very large tonal difference, but first, some background
Have you ever wondered why those British tube amplifiers from the 60s sound...
