what makes amps sound so incredibly different? i dont mean tonally or equalization wise, that is fairly simple, but in terms of texture, what makes a mesa break up so starkly differently from a fender? or a vox from a marshall?
How do mesa's have such good preamp dirt, where on a fender, you have to really juice the tubes and speakers before you get that wonderful break up?
Hi guys. I just took the plunge and got a great deal on an Eleven Rack last week, and was planning on using it with one of my QSC K10's... but I'd also like to try using it with a power amp and my Orange 1x12 cab (and then mic it through the PA). I know that cab will color the tone some, but a lot of people have said that it feels more like a 'real' amp live if you use a guitar cab with a power amp vs. a full-range powered speaker.
I'm new to power amps and was wondering if you guys could...
Came across this mystery amp for cheap, so I snatched it up. Looks like an excellent candidate for a guitar amp project!

In some ways it seems like a typical 6V6 push-pull amp, maybe 15 watts? The 9 pin tubes were missing and aren't labeled, but the pinout matches correctly for the usual 12A*7 types. But there's a few strange things. Firstly, the amp has obviously been modified, at least with the addition of the RCA input jack; it doesn't match the rest at all. The...
Hi Folks,
Can anyone recommend a master volume mod for a Chinese Orange AD-5?
I changed the speaker to an Eminence 1028 (wrong impedence I know), and it is waaay too loud now.
Hi
A recent problem with my LC50 Mk1 amp caused me to open up it up and examine the PCB. I discovered a concerning difference between the PCB and schematic - see attachments as follows;
- Extract of the schematic - see top left for a 10K 25W nodal resistor in the B+. Screenshot 2020-10-10 135907.jpg
- A pic of a LC50 PCB with a 10K 25w wirewound. Screenshot 2020-10-10 140022.jpg
- A pic of a LC50 PCB which looks like the one I have (note the 10K (3w?) carbon comp almost in the centre of the...
1746CE14-9C38-4884-A241-EA2BC21F493A.png . Could somebody tell me how the relay switching on this amp works. My problem is on the clean channel the tone stack works but on the gain channel the bass and mids are not working. The treble is working on the gain channel that’s crazy. So the relay is working it switches channels but not the tone stack. So on the gain it’s only letting the treble through.
Hi all, anyone have a schematic for a Eden Nemesis NC200 from around 1996 or so? Was able to buy a well worn one from a friend and it has a few weird noises. I can't find anything but schematics for the WT series. And Eden won't send schematics to customers. Thanks for any and all help!
Could someone tell me what capacitor or resistor I would Change out to change the sound of the voicing switch. Would it be c26 or c29 or r34. I would like to cut the mids some more thanks.
I have found these operating instructions for the ROZZ RGA 6TB/10TB in my documents.
This was a combo amp that a friend of mine had in his music shop in the early 1980s.

Hi everyone. I'm dismantling and tracing a Blackstar Fly 3 amplifier (see thread here: and here: ) and I am looking for the pin-out for the 7-pin PCB pots used by Blackstar - pictures from above and below PCB follow:

I know this is a dual gang (tandem) pot and I think it is the same pot used by Marshall for Master Volume in some modern amps (DSL 401 ?)
Does anyone have a pin-out for this pot?
I have a feeling one pin is a dummy leaving 6...
I'm beginning to plan for features for a dream amp. Could be long, long off but here I am wondering - I'd like a decent bit of switching capability. I'm gonna keep it short.
What is the best way to perform switching at high voltage like seen on an amp with a minimal footprint? Is it relays?
Say I wanted many smaller options - would 100v/1amp or 50v/1.5amp DIP switches such as these or these work?
Do I need a vDC250 switch for pretty much all switches or mostly just ones with Plate voltage?...
It's cute and pink and it's probably a accordion amp, but got kind of intrigued by the tube setup:
1 x 12AX7 or ECC83
2 x ECL82 - which is a triode and pentode in one package!
3 tubes: 2 gain stages, tremolo, phase inverter and 10W output
Hi folks
Every now and then, one has an eureka moment that one feels like sharing, but sometimes the fear of being severely flamed forces one to keep it to oneself.
After servicing tube guitar amplifiers for close on 40 years, I have decided to share a very simple component change that I discovered a few years back, because in my humble opinion, it makes a very large tonal difference, but first, some background
Have you ever wondered why those British tube amplifiers from the 60s sound...
A friend of mine sent this to me today. I thought I would pass it along as I really love the way these amps sound and I think you will too. I'll leave this up for a few days, if someone else can host it after that would be great.
My brother in law got his hands on a Newcomb AV-10 all tube record player, and he loves the way it sounds playing his guitar through it. He says the distortion is awesome. I attached a copy of the schematic.
Would a buffer before the amp be used?
Is the distortion from this from the power tube (EL34)?
Do you see any improvements needed to this amp to work with a guitar?
I just got one.........soooo gooood....sexy.....no need for pedalls.....loud.....awesome!!!
soon pictures.....I love EH stuff...
does someone have schematic? it is black...guitar version from 1970/es.....AC powered...
I have a homebrew JCM800 2204 (no fx loop), that I built out of an old Fender Bassman head. I am attempting to run it into my Weber Mass Lite 100 at full attenuation with no speaker connected. I then run the line-out of the Mass into my time based fx (just a carbon copy for now). The fx then go to my Fender Bandmaster and into a speaker cab.
The line-out signal is too strong for the pedals, so I swapped the 10k/1k voltage divider with a 100k/1k. The signal is still line level. It's like there...
Total newbie here. Here’s the story: I had a spare small speaker so I thought, why not buy a little amp circuit to use the speaker, build a little enclosure and hey presto, a small guitar amp for the caravan. So I bought a Noisy Cricket amp from Fuzzdog and am waiting for it to be delivered. Just wondered if anyone had built this and how they found it. Any problems?
Does the IC come with a socket or do you solder directly to the PCB.
OK.
I know.
I stayed with the single ended concept.
Got me a 125ESE just in time before lockdown. Wired some mods, JJ tubes and Bam! great improvement in sound.

Now I wonder whether a blocking resistor before V2 after the volume pot might smooth the sound even more.
Is it worth it?
