I know this kind of sucks as a first post but.... is anyone still running Ampwares? I placed an order a week ago and I haven't heard anything. I got an automatic order conformation but thats it. I sent an inquiry as to the status a few days ago and again, nothing! All I ordered is a few pots for some pedal projects I got going, so nothing big. Just curious if I sent my CC info to a dead site.
I've seen some interest here for this newer bargain tube amp from Thomann.de ...
I've found the schematic here :
and here are gutshots, schematics, some mods, and scope-shots :
I don't have one, and actually never seen one in person -- i only have his little brother the GA-5 -- so i can't answer much questions. This amp is said to require quite a lot of mods (more than the single-ended version) to be really great sounding :
- lower the B+, which is really too high and will eat power...
I made this amp 3 Years ago........4X ecc83, 2X EL34(Ei Nis...Yugoslavia),and rectifier tube.
build it completely from scratch .....but use good materials(stainless steel,wood-same kind as my guitar 8) )
...preamp is 4 paralell channels .....but can be switched into 2 +2 in serie(have 2 relays).....
...to be honest it is little bit chaotic(not bad sounding...no hum at all)....but I want to rebuild preamp section.................have 3xECC83 to do that (one is used for phase inverter)....
What is the best way to wire an amp to be able to switch between solid state and tube rectification? I saw the way it's done on the hot cat 30 but I'm just wondering about other and possibly better methods for doing this.
Effects don't scare me. I'll take apart or put together just about anything anyone will throw my way. However, I've never messed with the inside of an amp. This is mainly because of all the It could kill you!!!! stuff I hear.
The more I am getting into build pedals. The more I think I might like to make or mod an amp. Now, my question is what would be the best First Project for someone that doesn't want to die?
I got a 5E3 chassis from mojo tone and there are no holes in it for mounting the board. The screws I'm using are the standard fender size screws which I bought from ampwares. If anyone could tell me what size pilot hole needs to be drilled I'd appreciate it.
So... Just got myself a 60 watt (at min and 120 at max) speaker and it's at 8 ohms...
i always wanted to build an amp... but i couldnt afford the parts... but now i have the speaker so i can start of slowly...
is there any info out there that can help me make it into a cab?
or do i just put the + of the speaker to the lug of a mono or stereo 1/4? and put the minus to ground?
i am new at this
please forgive me of lack of knowing
more than a problem say a curiosity ..... I have this amp Blues De Ville of'93 (USA). Excellent tool, nothing to do with the current Mexican reproduction, but i have a problem with the tone , probably for the previous owner who has massacred a duty:
i set the sound with the volume and tone of the guitar totally open get with the discrete amp settings with optimal range of frequencies in treble and middle , but when i go down with the volume of guitar, even slightly, the sound becomes quite...
i'm looking for schematics for any of the mesa tube powered amps(d-180, m-180, m-190, 400, 400+, str400, etc). i have some but they are poor quality. not looking to clone one, just get ideas for a bass amp project as the mesa bass amps get high reviews.
Hi all,
I recently acquired a nice '83 Fender Concert ll amp, mainly to score the EVM12L lurking within :thumbsup . Here's the schematic:
It has a fair clean sound but I think the OD side really sucks. I play blues rock, and this amp was a stab, I think, at answering the Boogie amps of the period. I'm not a Mesa fan anyway but this amp kind of didn't really do it anyway.
Note the first stage. I've never seen anything like it and I think it's gotta go! Why would Rivera put that stage in...
And, although the tubes at the time were held to a much higher qc standard than today's Chinese / Russian crap tubes, I bet they were not within 2 mA of each other.
So I have a challenge for you all. Do you have an outstanding sounding amp that you are willing to pull the tubes from and check with your bias-rite or whatever methodology you prefer, and test to see how closely matched they are? Not how they WERE when purchased, but how they are NOW. It should be interesting to see.
Now just to...
I've been building an amp, it's a 2 channel 'design' that I've cobbled together with an 18 watt power section. One preamp is basically and 18 watt Lite and the other is the Lead preamp from AX84.
Rather than having a bunch of different input jacks I adapted a design for optical switching using a couple of vactrols (VTL5C1) which send the signal from the preamps either to the PI or to ground.
The problem I'm currently having is that I'm getting bleed or cross-talk between the 2...
This is an amplifier I'm currently building for a friend. It should be pretty interesting when finished. The preamp is something I designed when working on another amplifier that was done on a tweed Deluxe chassis and had 2 6V6 for the output. The results were very good and now I'm wanting to see it realized in a larger amplifier. I plan to run very conservative plate voltages on the tubes - I don't want the hard sound that comes from excessive voltages. The idea is to retain much of the...
Behringer has released a line of tubes, which I suspect are coming from one of the relatively few suppliers in the world, and they are saying this about them.
12AX7Q — Dual-triode preamp tube specially designed for “starved plate” applications that squeeze incredible tube tone into amps with solid-state power stages. From their newsletter.
I am particularly interested in the starved plate comment. Do you guys think there is any truth to this or am I just smelling some mojo? I don't know much...
Looking for some real world usages of voltage doubling power supply circuits. I don't really know much about this type of circuit at all, though i have heard it mentioned many times, i haven't had any reason to look into them until recently.
For instance like so:
B+ coming out the top of the schematic, and the bottom grounded, i suppose?
What kind of capacitor types/values would this entail? Does the schematic require anything else to work in a preamp circuit?
